shadowcruiser
I currenty have a Honda Shadow VT 1100 Spirit and am looking at several Indians to purchase. I want a cruiser for short trips. I need some advice on what to stay away from and what to look for. I like the idea of owning an Indian as alternative to a HD. Can anyone give me some sound advice ?? Vintage#144
Get a Spirit short trips are fine, you can go on long trips as well!
paolabob
For a short trip hell buy a Vespa, but if you want to arrive in style take your pick from any of the three models. Each has it's differences and any machine will break so we fix them and keep on riding. Read the links on each model and you will find a wealth of knowage to help you. Some of these guys/gals are excellent with a wrench and not affraid to share but share they do and we all benefit from the collective info base. So go ahead......get ya some! By gawd, if you can afford several then GO FOR IT!! Seriously, get a chief 99s have a different rake and a dry clutch, and the S&S motor 00s have the dry clutch, and S&S motor 01s have wet clutch and the S&S motor ( and the anniversary derby cover ) 02s and 03s have the 100 PP engine. Your best strategy for them is to rebuild the engine soon if not immediately. There are several builders whom have practically specialized in rebuilding the PPs, and they know exactly what to do to make it the bulletproof power plant which it deserves to be. Seriously though, if you can get an 02 or 03 for anything around 14K, then even after the rebuild it will still be a great deal. Another philosophy for the 02s and 03s is just ride the dam thing. A lot of 'em have held up fine. And if it don't ... well, you'll be the first to know.
