porkchop
It's not that I'm lazy: Today, cutting work early's advised 6-2-05 By Donald W. Patterson, Staff Writer News & Record There's only one thing wrong with National Leave the Office Earlier Day, scheduled for today. Its organizer, author and efficiency guru Laura Stack, "challenges workers to get more done in less time." Instead of working until 7, Stack thinks folks ought to knock off at 5. So, where's the fun in that? Why not change the name to 'National Leave the Office Early Day'. The appeal of cutting out early is not to work harder. It's to work less. Most folks work too hard already. Stack seems to agree. In a news release announcing her new day, Stack says the observance is intended to get workers "to commit to working no more than eight hours on that day." She even offers some tips to help workers be more productive, shorten their workday and "feel good about it." Here's an alternative that might make you feel good today. Leave for home about 3 p.m. Head straight for the sofa in the den. Pull a blanket under your chin. Take a book in both hands. And wait for sleep to come. If that doesn't work for you, substitute your own plan. But the point is this: Be good to yourself. Stack is also a proponent of clean desks. Now there's an issue workers need to tackle. But not today. I am Outta Here!
