Guest_ikonboard
Mexico threatens Arizona over anti-illegals measure A Mexican government official has threatened to use international courts to block an Arizona law meant to limit public benefits and voting rights to legal residents of the U.S. Foreign Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez said in a radio interview Wednesday that an international strategy would be used if other attempts to reverse Proposition 200 fail, the Associated Press reported. "We are seeking all the legal opportunities that exist, first using the legal capacities of the United States itself and ... if that does not work, bringing it to international tribunals," AP quotes Derbez as saying. Mexican officials have repeatedly complained about Proposition 200, which went into effect Tuesday. The statewide measure denies most taxpayer benefits to illegal aliens and requires state workers to report applicants for such benefits who may not be eligible. It also requires anyone registering to vote in the state to show proof of citizenship and bring a government-issued ID to the polling place. AP reported Derbez expressed regret that, according to polls, about 40 percent of Mexican-Americans in Arizona supported Prop. 200. The measure passed with 60 percent of the vote. "It's sad, and it gives an idea of how we have to work to educate even our own Mexican-Americans about why it is important that these proposals are not accepted," Derbez said. The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund has challenged Prop. 200, saying it is "an illegal, impermissible, unconstitutional state attempt to regulate immigration policy, which is a fundamental function and responsibility of our federal government. Proposition 200 is mean-spirited and un-American."

yakuza
I think it was about 10 years ago there was a little dispute between the federales and the Customs port director in Texas. The port director said ya right mother fucker and shut down the border. Both lanes, North and South. It got their attention and all came to jesus in a hurry. It takes balls and common sense to do the right thing. Unfortunately common sense is an uncommon virtue. For the most part the aliens that attained their cards legally are pissed at the illegals, because the illegals will do the same work cheaper thus saturating the pool. icon
If someone wants to put that measure on the ballot in California, I'll vote for it. Of course the Liberals in this state would never allow that.
Te Heuheu
It was put to the people in prop 187 here in Cal. It passed but, a San Francisco judge blocked it. I was at the court house with Mike Savage yelling out the stench from the bench is making me clench. I haven't heard anything about it since. On top of that our piece of shit former Governor Grey Davis would not fight it. He was told the state could, and most likely would, win on appeal but the fuck would not fight for what the people voted for. It is so funny to hear the Libs and Dems when they chant “power to the people”. Each time the people voice their opinion the “power to the people” crowd suddenly run to the courts. Did a google search Prop 187 & ACLU It was never appealed, that was the 9th District Court. The most liberal AND overturned District Court in the USA. Prop 200 was written taking into consideration all the arguments made by the 9th. It should stand if taken to the Supreme court Click here for more details on Prop 200. Guest_ikonboard
PROPOSITION 200: WHAT IT SAYS The Proposition 200 (Protect Arizona Now) voter initiative was conceived and directed by Arizona residents. The diverse sponsors include local officials, civic leaders, businessmen, and conservationists. FAIR and other immigration reform organizations supported signature-gathering efforts to help put Proposition 200 on the 2004 ballot. Arizona's illegal alien population is now estimated to be about 500,000. The annual cost of providing public benefits to illegal aliens living in Arizona now exceeds $1 billion, or $700 a year per household. Section 2 of the initiative states that illegal immigration is causing economic hardship, contradicts federal policy, undermines border security, and demeans the value of citizenship. Proposition 200 Sections 3 and 4 require new voters to document their U.S. citizenship when they register to vote. Section 5 requires voters to present a photo ID at the polling place. These measures will protect the integrity of the voter rolls against corruption and fraud. Section 6.A.3 prohibits public agencies from accepting insecure identification cards to show eligibility for public benefits, unless the issuing agency has verified the immigration status of the cardholder. Section 6.A.4 requires state and local government employees who discover a violation of federal immigration law to make a written report to federal immigration authorities. Proposition 200 will not change the types of benefits that are denied to illegal aliens. Federal law already defines the types of state or local benefits for which lawful immigration status is required. These include grants, contracts, loans and licenses and any retirement, welfare, health, disability, public or assisted housing, postsecondary education, food assistance, unemployment benefit, or similar benefit for which assistance is provided by appropriated funds of a State or local government. The procedures for verification of eligibility that will be required under Proposition 200 comply with federal regulations known as the SAVE (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlement) system. Arizona has used the SAVE system to verify eligibility for federally-funded benefit programs since 1999. Illegal aliens cannot be denied access to benefits that are exempted from verification by federal law. These programs include K-12 education, emergency health care, immunization programs, in-kind disaster relief, emergency food assistance, federal school lunch programs, and public services that are necessary to protect life or safety. Eligibility for state benefits and services will be determined solely by verification of an applicant's identity or immigration and nationality documents. Proposition 200 Section 6.C creates additional protections against discrimination not found in other federal or state law. Advocates for illegal aliens gain a new right to sue any government agency that discriminates in the verification process in state court.
