Drink and ride

Recommended Posts

:lookaround: Seems like the norm in this my area that everyone likes to go on Poker Runs where they race from one Bar to another and guzzle a beer before they head to the next one. :ooh2:

I'm not putting anyone down for taking a drink once in a while, but I flat refuse to ride when I have a drink and I don't ride with anyone when they do. :veryangry:

Just wondering how it is in other parts of the country

I have to agree with you on this. It is scary at the amount people will drink during these events. It seems that it is almost a contest among some people to see how many beers they can down during the event.

I'm with you, Pete. Don't mind if you have a beer when we

stop for a bite to eat but that's it. No bar hoppin' for me.

The Harley-Davidson dealers around here always

endorse those kind of rides.

I don't get it..

Where I am at, it is normaly 4 stops while riding sometimes 5. You have to buy a drink at each stop but it does not have to be alchoholic. On average it seems most people round here do 2 beers at each stop and then a few more at final stop. It never made sense to me when doing a fund raiser for an accident victim, why we all do sit and pound drinks. Same as our ABATE meetings in these parts are usually held at a tavern too.   :uhoh:

Yep, some people are just foolish. Doesn't matter if it is a car or a bike.

On a five stop poker run I will usually have say one beer and 4 cokes. Or 1 beer at the first stop. Three sodas. Maybe one beer at the last stop.

In other words, I don't drink enough to impair my riding skills or even to catch a buzz!!!!

I do not drink. Well, unless I am at a place that I do not have to leave.

Some of the guys I ride with may have a drink (beer) or two when we stop to eat, but not more then that. With the amount we eat and how fat these guys are that amount does not impair their ability to ride/drive. Their poor eye sight is a bigger impairment.

I will not ride with anyone who does more then that. The stupidest people I know are the ones who smoke out when they ride or the ones who ride with those people.

If you want to kill your self please put the gun in your mouth and pull the trigger. Leave the rest of us alone.

Who can't read street signs until he's halfway through an intersection again?

Old rule from old bikers (only way to get that way).

Two wheels - two beers - two hours.

Although it is hilarious at times to watch the idiots pull up to a stop light and forget to put their foot down.  Sometimes they do it more than once.  Watching them trying to get home before the cops get them (or they get killed or stuck under the bike) brings the point home pretty clear.

I am surprised the question came up though, I mean we're the IIRA.  None of us would do anything illegal, would we?

I aways keep a straight head when ridin'.

Got enough going against us as it is.

If we think you exceeded our limit (not yours), we put you in front.

First red light you go through, you're on your own.

I'm addicted to gasoline.

I smoke it through a pipe.

Had not planned on it, but hell if I need a brother-in-law to get my bikes when I am dead, I better hop on one of them and hit the bars today to find me a wifey !!!!  I never drink any more than my gas tanks will hold. (not a wifey for me, someone elses wifey)

I agree, SR.  I typically don't drink/ride, and when we do groups rides here I prefer it if no one in the group does either.  As a rule, we don't.  It's the odd day that I'm out by myself and I might stop on my way home and have a beer.  Or if I'm spending 4 hours somewhere because of an event, I might have a couple and something to eat. The point is that none of us want to end up shiny side down or worse because of alcohol.  We have enough trouble with keeping safe due to traffic, weather, and other factors to through another problem in the mix, ya know?

I leave the house sober, and if I'm riding, I don't touch a drop of alcohol until I'm done riding.

It's the simplest rule to keep.

(And Danny, if you're smoking cigars, you ain't tasting shit anyway...)

I quit drinking 24 years ago. But, from cars to semi's I've used alcohol/drugs while driving. That was jus plain stupid!

Drinking & riding a scoot jus don't mix. I don't care how good of a rider ya are, your asking for trouble.

I don't much care to drink and ride, and don't much care to ride with those who do, I keep it simple one drink while on the road, more when I reach the end of the ride and put her away for the night.

Being in the wind, is perhaps the most relaxing time of my day, don't need any thing else to help me unwind.
