Guest_ikonboard
Popular politician aims to close Netherlands to non-Westerners THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) - One of the most popular politicians in the Netherlands said Friday the country's democracy is under threat and called for a five-year halt to non-Western immigration in the wake of the killing of a Dutch filmmaker by a suspected Muslim radical. "We are a Dutch democratic society. We have our own norms and values," right-wing lawmaker Geert Wilders said in an interview. "If you chose radical Islam you can leave, and if you don't leave voluntarily then we will send you away. This is the only message possible." In his first interview with the foreign media since the slaying of filmmaker Theo van Gogh on Nov. 2, Wilders said his own life has been repeatedly threatened. He said he has begun living under state protection and has even had to stay away from his own home. Wilders split with the free-market coalition partner Liberal Party two months ago because it backed the candidacy of predominantly Muslim Turkey for the European Union. He formed his own conservative party, the Wilders Group, which has one seat in the 150-member parliament. But a recent poll suggested his anti-immigrant message was reverberating through the electorate, and he would win 24 seats if elections were held today - up from 19 seats before Van Gogh's murder. Wilders said that without swift, bold action, Islamic fundamentalism will topple the country's democratic system. "The Netherlands has been too tolerant to intolerant people for too long," he said. "We should not import a retarded political Islamic society to our country. There is nothing to be ashamed of to say this. It's not Islam. I speak out against the facts." In Brussels, Belgium, European Union leaders met Friday to discuss immigration, one of Europe's most pressing and sensitive issues. EU justice and interior ministers agreed to demand that new immigrants learn the language of their adopted countries and adhere to "European values" to guide them toward better integration. Even as the number of immigrants arriving in Europe falls due to tougher policies, led by a sharp drop in the Netherlands, Wilders said closing the borders isn't enough. Newcomers should be forced to integrate. "If in a mosque there is recruitment for jihad, it's not a house of prayer, it's a house of war. If it's not a house of prayer, it should be closed down," he said. Wilders, known for his radical positions and peroxide-blond hair, has been a member of parliament since 1998. He was born and educated in the southern city Venlo, near the German border. "I'm very tough on radical Islam. I have the toughest ideas on beating this problem and I'm proud of it. I say nothing wrong. I'm no racist, no anti-Islamist," he said. Wilders and the police took the death threats more seriously following the slaying of Van Gogh, who had produced a television drama critical of how women are treated in some Muslim societies. The filmmaker was shot and stabbed to death, allegedly by a 26-year-old suspected Islamic extremist who holds Dutch and Moroccan citizenship. Guest_ikonboard
Sounds like Europe may have a better grasp on the situation then we do. Guest_ikonboard
Posted on Sat, Nov. 20, 2004 EU passes newcomer standards By Constant Brand The Associated Press BRUSSELS, Belgium - European Union justice and interior ministers agreed Friday that new immigrants to the 25-nation bloc should be required to learn local languages and to adhere to general "European values" that will guide them toward better integration. Rita Verdonk, the Dutch immigration minister who chaired the meeting, said all countries agreed to make integrating newcomers a priority, considering the growing ethnic tensions as EU nations struggle to absorb a stream of poor, mostly Muslim immigrants. Just this month in the Netherlands, the slaying of filmmaker Theo van Gogh by a suspected Muslim radical unleashed a wave of attacks against mosques, churches and religious schools in a country once famed for its tolerance. Tensions also rose in Belgium, where authorities arrested a suspect Friday accused of sending death threats to a senator of Moroccan heritage who criticized radical Muslims. "It's not like we are against immigration," Verdonk said. "If you want to live in the Netherlands, you have to adhere to our rules ... and learn our language." Highlighting a Europewide problem, Verdonk said that some 500,000 Turkish and Moroccan immigrants in the Netherlands don't speak Dutch. For now, integration policies across the continent vary greatly. Public concerns over immigration have fueled electoral successes for far-right parties in several European countries, including Austria and Italy, where they have joined the national government. Many Muslims have bristled at new rules targeting immigrants that they say amount to racial profiling that is insensitive of their religion. kimosabe
What I cant understand is that ya keep hearing how muslims by and large are peaceful and not warring and all that....and that it is supposedly just a minority of muslim radicals who are at fault....well its bullshit because if that were the case ya would see muslim countries, muslim families, muslim mosques policing themselves and clamoring for the heads of the terrorists and those who harbor them. Osama bin Laden woulda been kicked in the head by now, just like the all of the Hispanics in East LA kicked Richard Ramiriz ( the nightstalker killer) I know, bad analogy but its what Osama bin Laden deserves and a lot worse.. and its what they shoulda done by now ifmuslims as a whole were interested in protecting their reputation as "a peaceful people". Ya dont hear that, instead they seem content to allow the supposed minority radicals to sway their youth, and harbor them in their mosques. They are a warring religion and someday we are gonna have to stop the political correctness and call it what it is. At the same time, we are gonna have to figure out that those people are never gonna get along over their... Israel is gonna hate and mistrust the muslims and vice versa...they want each other gone. Those folks will never have a clue and never get a life. So why are we taking sides and making our own lives miserabale? I say just let em blow each other off the map,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Then give the land free to Stellican to build Indians.
KC Cheef
Right on Kimo!! Jihad translates roughly to HOLY WAR if I'm not mistaken. (And maybe I am) We better get to calling it what it is--Holy War--not PC, but we better get our shit together, and recognize it for that. Pretty much an infidel is an infidel, and that's what their religion teaches. Not tolerance, and love. They can't say much against it without going against their own religion. Have you ever been in a Muslim country when call to prayer sounds---man it is scary to watch them drop everything, and head to the mosque--like they are hypnotized or something. I don't know about Indians built in the Holy Land though. I like saying "shit" or "fuck me" when something breaks--I just can't imagine saying "Oy veh". Just doesn't have the same ring to it!!! Guest_ikonboard
All this change and loss of freedom over the death of one European, but the USA is suppose to accept the death of over 3,000. Why is it that Europe on the Left always fall back to appeasement when every time it is tried the shit hits the fan. Dutch Filmmaker Theo Van Gogh Murdered Associated Press AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - A Dutch filmmaker who had criticized the treatment of women under Islam in a movie and in newspaper columns was shot dead Tuesday outside a city government office in Amsterdam, police said. Police spokeswoman Elly Florax confirmed media reports the victim was filmmaker Theo van Gogh and that a suspect had been arrested after a shootout in a local park. The suspect, who was not identified, and a police officer were injured, she said. No motive was given for the attack. (Hummm, wonder what happened. The person who wrote that can not be that stupid.) Van Gogh had made headlines recently with a film critical of some elements of Islamic culture. He also wrote columns about the Islam which were published on his Web site, www.theovangogh.nl, and Dutch newspaper Metro. He had reportedly received death threats following the airing of the film. The short television film "Submission" aired on Dutch television in August and enraged the Muslim community in the Netherlands which said it was provocative and lacked insight. It told the fictional story of a Muslim woman forced into a violent marriage, raped by a relative and brutally punished for adultery. The English-language film was scripted by a right-wing politician who years ago renounced the Islamic faith of her birth and now refers to herself as an "ex-Muslim." Somali-born Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a member of the Dutch parliament, has repeatedly outraged fellow Muslims by criticizing Islamic customs and the failure of Muslim families to adopt Dutch ways. The place of Muslim immigrants in Dutch society has long been a contentious issue in the Netherlands, where many right-wing politicians have pushed for tougher immigration laws and say Muslims already settled in the country must make a greater effort to assimilate. Theo van Gogh, 47, has often come under criticism for his controversial movies. In December, his next movie "06-05," about the May 6, 2002 assassination of Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn, is scheduled to debut on the Internet.
