MADISON COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- Madison County Fire Rescue says a tractor-trailer hauling at least a dozen motorcycles went up in flames along Interstate 10 on Thursday.

MCFR says it happened just after 11 a.m. near mile marker 262 in Madison County.

Officials say it started when the trailer experienced a tire blowout and the driver attempted to make it to the next exit before stopping. Another driver reportedly flagged down the driver upon seeing flames coming from the trailer.

The Florida Highway Patrol and MCFR responded to the scene.

No injuries were reported.

MCFR says the tractor-trailer and the motorcycles it was hauling sustained damage in the fire

Those demo truck trailers do carry fuel up in front to fill the tanks for the demo rides.

Could have been worse.

I have seen more firey wrecks on Eye-10 than any other roadway, yet I only lived near it for a year.

Wasnt tire related

Wheel bearings failure is to blame

Makes sense to always check wheel bearing end play on any vehicle.

Just a general question to everyone, not personal in any way...

Have you ever checked yours? :Oo:

And, ‘generally’ (not always - but, most often) you can ‘hear’ wheel bearings beginning to go bad on a tractor trailer. That ‘off-center’ rub/grind noise cadence is unmistakable as you pass a rig or they pass you. Best not to be traveling too near to one when you hear that sound.

Its a little more difficult to check the wheel bearings on that trailer vs a cargo trailer.

With that being said Ill lay my hands on the hub and check heat maybe not every day but often maybe a couple times a week

Also replace wheel bearings every other brake job just for added security

A proper bearing packing & endplay confirmation is essential for peace of mind.
