lvbutcher
Got to thinking the other day about my "smoke tint" windshield. Great during the day, but I catch myself squinting at night if I'm in some dark valley, and I was wondering why they don't sell bike windshields that act like eyeglasses that change tint with the amount of light that you're in? (or do they??) What I have came with the bike. And though I always said I'd never have a wind screen, I kind of like the idea of not being tired from buffeting by the wind on an all day ride and the bug-less factor. But why don't they make a windshield that clears when it gets dark, and darkens when you need it most? Thanks in advance for enlightening me. firebird77clone
You've probably got something there.
dk007
It can probably be done. Unfortunately, it will cost about $4,000. Have you seen the price of transitional lenses for glasses....?
TallRider
There's a guy in CT that can do it for $2,000 . . . wait - that was something else for $200.

Can't say that I've noticed the price lately, but I've worn them all my life. Maybe it was because I had good insurance for the last 3 decades, but I also know the profit margin for glasses of any kind (unless you find an online discount house) is way up there. Can't cost more than chroming parts! Just seems like a great idea. And if it can be done on plastics, seems like extruding the sheet and forming it would be the more expensive factor, not the chemical additive in it. But I don't know, hence the question. hasbin
If it wasn't for the fact that a shield should terminate at about nose level you might have something.... At 6'5" my shield terminates at my shoulders so it is a non-issue.... YMMV

CHIEF DOC 99
http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/36071/i/bobster-renegade-photochromic-sunglasses http://www.google.com/patents/US20130014315 http://www.baggershield.com/hercules-24-photochromic-motorcycle-sunglasses-clear-to-smoke-p-37.html Quick reacting photochromic transition windshields would be the thing. My experience with the glasses is they darken quickly but can take up to 15 minutes to lighten up to clear. Maybe someday, but as usual I wouldn't spend a fortune on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UclCCFNG9q4 Edited July 18, 2015 by CHIEF DOC
