Tgwazu
Just wondering if anyone has seen the "World's Fastest Indian" movie about Burt Munro and his 200 mph, 1920 Indian Scout. I am sure there are plenty of inaccuracies (especially the transvestite who helps him), but otherwise the movie seems to portray the character of the man. On the down side (other than the transvestite) they did not delve into Munro's technical improvements, and I did not see any in the sparse research I did. Any comments? Maldev
Burt ran into a lot of strange characters in his travels over here. The LA Chapter of the IIRA welcomed in that movie and made Roger Donaldson, his executive producers, and Anthony Hopkins honorary members of the IIRA during the red carpet premiere here in LA. If you can pick up a copy of One Good Run by Tim Hannah, you'll find more of what you're looking for. There's also the documentary that Roger Donaldson completed before Burt passed away. Most copies of the DVD and Blu-ray of TWFI have that on the disc as an extra.

firebird77clone
Dunno what you have against the tranny in the movie. Burt was accepting help from anyone generous enough to offer it. To me, it adds realism to the story. True, I dunno. But it makes for good entertainment anyway.
Brock
Yep I always took it as taking help from people and them offering through kindness and sincerity and how his success was not just his own but a whole host of people along the way that made it possible....it was not just HANDED TO HIM.

The thing is, many racers help each other out, it still happens to this day (some more than others) I have had peeps give me scoots to ride if mine broke even if I was in the same race. that type of behavior was much more prevalent back in that time period. Racers are a different breed, I have seen many a racer loose houses, family's & every other thing they own because of the race bug.
2blackbelts
I agree with Chris. When I traveled with the HD dirt track racing team, everyone pitched in to help each other out. I had a blast for two seasons travelling all over the country. Problem is they never would let me ride one of the 750 flat trackers no matter how much I whined. Scott Parker said I could ride one if I could get it started...couldn't.

Maldev
Still happens today. Mouse and I rode up to a free car show yesterday in Woodland Hills. Nothing special, just a mall parking lot that gets turned into a free car show evey Sunday before Mall hours. Mouse rode her Scout and I rode the boardtracker. We were having fun running up the 101 when I heard a new rattle on the boardtracker. Nothing big, just new. We pulled into the parade of cars and parked. Immediately we were surrounded by onlookers as I started going over the boardtracker trying to figure out what was rattle. I then noticed the coil hanging by the cables. The mounting bolt had backed out and the coil was bouncing between the jugs. No bolt in sight. I mentioned I was going to need to walk down to the hardware store and pick up some zip ties. A guy in his early twenties said he some in his truck and he'd be right back. 40 minutes later, having answered all the questions we could about our bikes to the crowd, the guy comes back with zip ties. I thanked him and he apologized for taking so long. He didn't have any in his truck so he drove home to get some for me.

Thats what you get when you don't invite FUKR, I would have had a bolt in the tool bag

Mouse and I were at an industry party until 2am. She wanted to go to this but I figured she wasn't going anywhere at 6am. I was surprised she got up and in a good mood.
