Long Island Biker Killed After Hitting Pot Hole

Recommended Posts

we were on an IMRG ride Sunday ... guy behind, off to my right, almost hit a pothole that was about 12" in circumference and looked to be about 3" deep ... I was looking down in it as I rode by it, pointing it out... .close call

My first accident as a kid on a motorcycle was hitting a pothole in Michigan at speed. Totaled the bike. I was lucky. Real lucky.

Ouch .. no doubt you're feeling blessed .. I hit one my first year on a 'big' bike... cracked the rim, and wobbled it off the road. But I was barely doing 30mph.

Some of you saw my front rim at Branson. I hit a pothole in the highway doing about 70 mph. Scared the crap outta me. Looked the bike all over after I stopped - couldn't see any damage. Took months before it showed, because the big divot in the rim always ended up hidden by that big-assed fender.

Dumb fucking luck. Gotta love those old-school tube tyres.

Hey Chris, Maybe he's getting it off the trailer? Or fueling it up? :babyhaha::babyhaha::babyhaha:

I was riding the back roads somewhere in Kansas on my why to Branson.. I hit a pot hole under a train trestle that sent my ass flying out of my seat.. just glad I had a good hold of my bars... otherwise I probably would of watched my bike ride away without me on it...

Remember, the "REAL" bikers say that you need to be riding a rigid. Can you imagine how those pot holes would feel on a sprung front end with no rear suspension? My first ride was a 46 HD flathead 45. Whenever you hit a hole, speed bump, rock, anything, you knew then that you had graduatated to being a "REAL biker.

Thats why I have a glide front end and swingarm now .

Have you changed it yet?

 It's still early...

That's what I thought. Hell it rode fine from 2009 when it happened until I finally swapped it out 5 years later with the one that Jimbo and Kim gave to me in 2011. Speaking of Kim, has anyone spoken to her lately? She said something on FB that was a little worrisome - so I sure hope it turned out to be nothing. She and Jim are about the finest people you could hope to meet.
