glassguy2
i think polaris is usling bullshit tactics already .im not sold at all yet . we have a local victory dealer and i asked about the indian . he said they approached him and said to have the indian brand he would have to build a indian only dealership . i can see not mixing the two . he said no way would he sink millions in a new building. but . they give it to the damn yamaha dealer in birmingham ,indians are shoved to the back in a small area . crotch rockets ,4 wheelers ,pwcs everywhere ,it makes the indian look like a afterthought . so what happened to the freestanding only requirement ? never seen a hd -yamaha dealer ,
Scalper38
Me thinks your guy is bullshitting you (or you're bullshitting us). Polaris has allowed MANY Victory dealers, including the flagship dealer in Charlotte, to co-house Indian and Victory.

KenB
I've talked to a couple of dealers about this. Vic & Indian are ok in the same building, but there needs to be a separation between the two. Polaris is looking of boutique type dealers, like HD has. One of the prospective dealers out here that already sells Vics wanted to get Indian too, but the floor space was too small, and their location isn't good either, so Indian told them they would have to build a new building - they didn't want to do that, so they didn't get the Indian franchise. The dealer that we did get out here was a "power sports" kind of place. Vics and crotch rockets, along with Polaris ATVs. They made space for the Indians toward the back - and right now Indian is outselling everything else they sell. I understand that they are moving the crotch rockets to another dealer location. Interesting side note... They guy that owns the local Indian dealer is the founder of Re-Max real estate. He bought this dealer a year to two ago, then added the Indian franchise.. and recently bought an existing HD franchise of 2 dealerships in Denver (Aurora and Parker actually). Dan_Frisbie
I've dealt with two different dealers(Pensacola, FL and Hattieburg, MS). Hattiesburg sells damn near everything except HD. Their Indians are up front and have a large area. Pensacola sells BMW, EBR, Ural and MotoGuzzi as well as Indians. Their Indians are in a seperate showroom from everything else. The Polaris/Victory dealer in Pensacola has a dark and somewhat grungy showroom with a few bikes and ATVs. He told me (before the Indian dealer opened) that Indian wouldn't allow him to get the dealership. I didn't have to ask why...

Foreverchief
Shagganappl motorsports of Calgary is a large HD dealer as well as selling Indian , Ducutti, and Royal Enfield,. Imagine HD and Indian being sold by the same dealer, not Victory and Indian together.

Maybe "bullshit" was a little too strong, apologize for that. How's about, you didn't get the full story since like KenB stated, if the place is too small to separate THEN the dealers are required to build new.

KenB
I remember hearing that a HD dealer somewhere in SoCal was selling Indians also. I don't know if that's still going on; maybe the SoCal boys here can bring me up to date.

hasbin
I never seen a hd -yamaha dealer , There is a stealership in Kingman Az. that has metric's beside H-D's, "COCKSUCKERS" wouldn't sell me a quart of primary oil because I was on an Indian.... Maldev
I remember hearing that a HD dealer somewhere in SoCal was selling Indians also. I don't know if that's still going on; maybe the SoCal boys here can bring me up to date. It closed. That was the dealership during the KM days and one of the reasons I didn't purchase a KM Chief. I gave them the chance to work on the PP100 in the boardtracker and the bike sat for three weeks before I got a call letting me know they couldn't source the problem. They proceeded to put the Indians in the rear of their dealership next to the service/part department and had very little staff with knowledge on the bikes. Prior to that were several LA Indian dealerships that were quietly backed by the owners of HD dealerships. Hell, the Long Beach dealership was owned by a Nissan dealership owner as I recall. maninbox
I was thinking of opening a Vespa and Indian dealership. Both are hot sellers. I could display the Vespa's sitting on the Indians.
Maldev
If you came out with a model where you could fit a Vespa in each saddlebag, I think you'd have a winner. You could call it the Brock Special. Exclusive pink paint job.
SwissIndian
I was thinking of opening a Vespa and Indian dealership. Both are hot sellers. I could display the Vespa's sitting on the Indians. .... there was a dealer with Vespa and Indian in Paducah KY in KM days .... went to the opening (got myself nice leather Indian jacket) - nice place but it was closed in 12 or 14 months ..... the guy is a Toyota dealer as well.
