Wish Me Luck!

Recommended Posts

Thursday, I'll be taking off on the Chief with about eight other guys on a 4-day road trip from Ohio to KY, TN, NC, WV and back to Ohio. We're going on a "Distillery Tour" and the total route is about 1300 miles. In all my years of riding, this will be the first long-distance bike trip I have ever made and it'll give me and the bike a chance to bond.......and to see which one gives up first. :laughlong: It's probably not much of a trip compared to some of the ones you guys have been on lately but I'm looking forward to something besides the local jaunts.

Anyway, if anyone's out and about near Gatlinburg, TN or Jonesville, NC over the next couple days, drop me a line and maybe we can meet up. See you on the road. :bhi:

Can't tell what you are riding from my IPhone, but if a PI/Soirit Lake Indian you will have no problems.

Riding an '02 Gilroy Chief. Just had her rebuilt so we'll see how well of a job my shop did.

Thanks for the wishes, guys!

What day are you going to be in Jonesville? If that's the one neat Yadkinville I might be able to meet you. There ain't shit there.

JGlace don't live too far from there neither does RoadRoach, he may be the closest. I think Glace is in Florida

Yes, that's the Jonesville near Yadkinville. In fact, we'll be eating at Little Richards Smokehouse BBQ in Yadkinville on Saturday evening.

I have yet to consult my activities director, but may be able to join you. I am at present suffering from a bout with a medical complication that may preclude me from riding over there. If you could PM me a phone # I'll call when it gets closer. There is a Holiday Inn there in Yadkinville, that will be about as good as it gets for lodging out that way.

Well, I successfully returned unscathed from my 1300 mile trip this weekend. We had a great time, the weather was good and the bike ran great, even in the heat. The only downer was that we came back home a little earlier than expected because severe weather was forecast for this afternoon in Ohio and more importantly, one of the riders in our group went down on the Tail of the Dragon riding his new Harley Fat Bob. Luckily, he only ended up with some road rash and a few bruises but his bike took a beating. It was still rideable but was a cosmetic wreck. Anyway, he was game for the balance of the trip but we could tell the enthusiasm just wasn't there after the crash so that sealed the deal for coming home early. Sorry I didn't get to meet with MicMac in NC as I was looking forward to it.

As mentioned, other than our buddy going down, the rest of the trip was great. The Gilroy never missed a beat, started right up every time, got decent gas mileage and.....has the hardest seat ever made. I figured I'd have a hemorrhoid the size of a tennis ball by the time I got home. I don't have cruise control or a throttle lock so I bought one of the throttle paddles which helped minimize hand cramping quite a bit. The oil spray from the air cleaner I complained about in a previous thread slowly went away. I checked the engine oil and it's halfway between the full and add marks so that's where I'm going to leave it. It appears the smart guys who said to reduce the oil level to make the spray go away were right on the money.

We did stop at a Harley botique in Gatlinburg, TN and I hoped to find a gel pad to help my aching ass. But, no parts, oil or accessories there....only black and pink T-shirts, sweat shirts, jewelry and other Harley emblazoned knick-knacks. I was only in the store for about two minutes although the Harley guys spent a little more time holding up some of the latest trademarked apparel asking if it would make their asses look big.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for the well wishes and advice. Really looking forward to my next road trip.......after I get a seat pad.

If you still got a stock Gilroy seat, burn it and get a Corbin. I had a sore butt from test-driving a new Vintage for 45 minutes, but I can ride my 02 with a Corbin all day. My old joints get stiff and cramped up, but my butt does just fine. Don't get a used Corbin though, cause it won't fit you right.,
