Sorry for the rant, but I just want to scream and really worried where we are headed as a society.

We have a kindergartner and we just received our daughter's BMI report that was part of her "health assessment" - no this wasn't done by our doctor, it was done by the fucking school nurse without our knowledge. They never gave any advanced warning or any information about them doing a health assessment on her.

I am beyond fucking pissed. This information is between us and her doctor. It is not any of the school's business. What the Fuck kind of society have we become. Wake the fuck up people.

Our daughter is fine, unlike her father. Lol All this shit is going into the massive longitudinal database that's part of common core. Your heads would explode if you knew all the datapoints being collected. It makes the NSA look like a bunch of Boy Scouts.

Private schools are no better. They all fall prey to common core

not all private schools accept fed funding...seek em out, home school or do what I did.

Yes, you sure did, especially knowing where that quote came from.....

Home schooling is the way to go these days. Most of my nieces and nephews have been home schooled and they way beyond other kids their same age....

Yes, that came from Her Thighness, Monica's ex-lover's wife.

A kid I grew up with was put in "Special Class" when we were kids. Danny graduated from Annapolis and became a M.D. I'm sure he laughs about the school nurse with the 2 year degree who decided he required remedial assistance all the way to the bank

I am reminded of a situation in which my son was accused of stealing someone's welfare voucher free lunch for kids who's parents get food stamps at home and their lazy asses should pack them a lunch anyway instead of me having to pay for their lunch anyway. When I arrived at the school, my son had already been interrogated by the police not in my presence. I raised hell about this and was advised that in NC the school has the right to act as in loco parentis, and could make decisions as if they were my son's parent. Come to find out they had traded their "meal tickets" for dope, and wanted to blame my son to get out of it. He went to a private school the next day, as did my daughter.

Amassing this type of data could lead to the creation of a stigma in which a child develops a sense of inadequacy, and can lead to what is known in the realm of psychological study as a "self-fulfilling prophecy" which in turn can lead the child to develop a self image of failure as they internalize the initial information as fact. The chances of this diminish as long as the child recieves enough positive reinforcement which I am certain you provide LabRat. If I were you, and you didn't ask for advice, I would not even mention it in her presence. I am not saying you shouldn't act on this, just don't make it a big deal around her.Imagine the kids this happens to that do not live in the environment your daughter does by these untrained fucks. If schools would concentrate on education instead of social work, perhaps we (USA) wouldn't lag behind in the academic prowess of other nations.

Hitler did this took the kids away from the parents for the betterment of the state. sad part is they have already taken our rights as parents away. In many ways I am glad to be towards the end of my life then the beginning. Course the older I get the bigger pain in the ass I can start to be.

Kid's change as they develop and a BMI at that age is not determinative, but all they are giving you is INFORMATION. What's wrong with information? When I was in elementary school almost 60 years ago (you know, those Eisenhower Years) our weight and hieght was part of the quarterly report cards. So today its BMI. I don't see the big deal.

When my kid was in early elementary school I was contacted about my son's "hearing problem". Turns out he had chronic asymptomatic ear infections (no runny nose, coughing,etc.),. It was affecting his hearing in the noisier atmosphere of school but which we hadn't picked up on at home. Good thing they picked up on it. So maybe you should watch what and how much she eats, but maybe not. That's your call as a parent, but all they've done is given you information that bears on your child's health.

On the other hand, my story is that they tended to ignore his somewhat distinct intellectual interests/needs (everything was oriented toward math/science and he was artistic/literary at an early age). I had to fight like hell to get him the educational program that met his needs, but I got it. The key is to keep at it and make sure you are in it for your kid's best interests, all of them. Want to go private? You have to fight the same battles as a parent.

Here's the big deal - It's none of their business and they are doing this without our prior knowledge or our consent. By law, we must take her to the doctor for a physical each year prior to her being allowed to enter school the next year. Therefore we get that information already from private sources - well not really private anymore thanks to Obamacare because it mandates all medical information be digitized and goes into a national database.

60 years ago the information wasn't cataloged, entered into a massive electronic database that was easily searchable and accessible to virtually anyone.

This is not for our information, it is for their information and is but one of the thousands of data points being collected on our kids without our consent. I'm not talking about grades, but things such as religious affiliation, political party affiliation of the parents, household income. A school in Florida got busted for doing retina scans on the kids without the parents consent. They are beginning to use pressure sensitive mice and chairs to measure how they respond to stress when taking a test. During those tests they also have been activating the webcam on the computers to measure facial patterns - another indication of stress.

The new report card includes things like "qualities of a good learner" and in their mind what is a good learner is a lemming, not a student that challenges the teacher by asking probing questions. It's all about how well they follow direction and do as their are told. They are training our kids not to be inquisitive, but to just follow along. And sure as shit don't question authority.

The database they are collecting on our kids is huge and virtually all the information is none of their business. There is no escaping this unless the school takes zero public money and those are very few and far between. Something as simple as share the school districts busses to transport kids, they are taking public money. Private schools are required to participate in many states standardized tests - tests subsidized with public funds to develop and track, thus virtually no private school can escape this no matter how much they try.

The vast majority of folks in our family here on the forum no longer have school age kids, grandkids maybe, but unless you are up on what is going on in our education system as part of Common Core, you really don't know what they are doing in our schools and how it is dramatically changing our society.

If Hitler had 1/10th of the information our government is collecting on us as adults and even more so on our children, no Jew would have escaped.

Yes, 1984 was the blueprint for the society that is being created - that and Animal Farm.
