mycorn
you put gas and oil in the thing and run the miles up then the air starts showin thru the goddam back tyre apparently the ME880 is done some NOS still exists on the web my bud has stopped mounting walk-ins so i got him to order a 888 in the short time i had yesterday evening out scuffing the wax off i would say they have done a good job with the changes obviously any tire with over 10k on it is gonna be fairly flat in the tread department so it was a lovely to be on a round cross section again it feels fairly sticky and very sure-footed i actually hit some wet pavement as well with no sense of discomfort or loss of grip they are willing to call it 'ultra' mileage capable and with the depth of rubber i'd say it should be at least as good as it's predecessor i did bearings as well [33k on the jap OEM's] so some of the handling improvement is because the back end is a lot tighter but all in i'm happy except for the sizable chunk of change i left there one bearing went in too easy so i'm gonna have to do a new wheel at some point not that i'l miss the garlic cancer chrome look... i may have to find someplace else that will do a carry-in or heaven forbid go back to mounting my own tires again i hate spending money fwiw mh

Dr. Mark
Even better news... "The range of METZELER tyres expands from Spring 2014 . A wider range of sizes and a new version of the ME 888 MARATHON™ Ultra, the new tyre from the brand with the blue elephant, dedicated to all owners and lovers of V-Twins and the custom world. The new product, already nicknamed "Triple 8" from the US public, will be present with new sizes, including the 23-inch front, and with a Whitewall version." And guess what??? One of the new sizes is....TAAA DAAAA... 180/65 B 16 (81H) Reinf Whitewall!!! YES!!!! We will be able to get Chieftain tires in WWW!!!! stu
Hmmm.... American made Dunlops are a great tire.... come stock on the new chiefs.... and you'd change.... I don't get it....

Dr. Mark
Hmmm.... American made Dunlops are a great tire.... come stock on the new chiefs.... and you'd change.... I don't get it.... Dunlops are a great tire...but... The Metzelers are a much better tire. Look, I try to buy American whenever possible unless my safety and that of my passenger is involved. Same reason I wear a Schuberth helmet. The only American made helmet that offers the same level of safety is a $2500 Bell, that is NOT a flip face. Plus, the Dunlop WWW's don't have the same GVWR and speed rating as the blackwalls, which is why they don't offer it on the Chieftain. If you want a safe, reliable WWW for your Chieftain...(which you don't, stu...) then you need an ME888.
uplander
metzlers are not worth a shit since thy moved production to Brazil have had 2 different friends have chunks come out of relatively new tires!
stu
Know a guy who had a new Metz put on and went flat while riding... Nothing appeared wrong... So we can always find a reason to not buy American... But a Dunlop carries my wife around too... And I wouldn't put her safety in jeopardy either.... stu
And I don't believe Metz are a better tire... My opinion.. Same as your statement is purely opinion

mycorn
Hmmm.... American made Dunlops are a great tire.... come stock on the new chiefs.... and you'd change.... I don't get it.... since you hijacked my thread [which wasn really spoze to start tyrewarz again] and i'm curious... your opinions about buying american goods are well documented here how do you feel about foreign made products being available for purchase in america?[ameican imports] competing directly in any given market how do you feel about american made products being sold in foreign countries? [american exports] as far as i'm concerned here its an all or none question you dont get to cherrypick products...
stu
I think, again my opinion, imports and exports are fine... We,as Americans, decide what we want to buy... Just like Japanese or Brazilians. But, it should be fair as to openness of markets and labor rules... Import taxes hinder our ability to penetrate some foreign markets... Maybe we should have higher import duties on those countries... Some countries still use child labor... My opinion is if you don't meet our minimum labor requirements you should not be able tell sell here... mycorn
that's all well and good but this is the real world child labour and disproportional import/export duties are part of the equasion you cant cherrypick the rules either over the years i'v worn out dunlops michelins metzlers avons bridgstones and pirellis as far as my personal experience goes the 2 dunlop sets were the absolute worst they sukd goat hemorrhoid the elite<?> was 10+% higher that the 888 as was the commander II in this day and age that is what dictates my purchase fwiw [yes... i go in walmart sometimes too]

Over 30 years ago... Between subsidies union and mismanagement a good job went away... I went to school ... Got a degree in electrical engineering.. But I'm still blue collar at heart... I'd like to see pride in American jobs and products... Buy whatever you want but it does impact others... I'm not perfect... I still buy Levi's and wranglers... K2V2
Hmmm.... American made Dunlops are a great tire.... come stock on the new chiefs.... and you'd change.... I don't get it.... Tire threads are like oil threads. Everyone has an opinion, and they're often very subjective. Dunlop E3s come stock on Visions and I've never found a reason to change brands over 70,000+ miles. I have been very satisfied with them for road handling in all conditions. That being said, a lot of Vision riders insists Brand X, Brand Y or Brand Z are better. Personally, I say the Made in USA Dunlop E3s are better. It's nice that the 888 is an option for the Chieftain. Metzeler has had a solid reputation but I have heard some grumblings about them since production moved to Brazil. YMMV
Brock
my best tire on any of my Indians was the Michelin Commander series for all around riding...never felt a need for more grip, better wet weather riding, or increased feel and handling. Great tires. I did put a Dunlop on my 2002 before I sold her and was a good tire too.....between these two tires never felt need for Metzler or Avon....then again I dont like WWW... mycorn
got almost 4 hours on it today [it's been cold and wet since the day i put the 888 on] after runnin the rest of the wax off: very sticky very predictable VERY nimble same groove handling that the 88 and 880 always had i like it YMMV
