badndn
For those that were at the Barn Ride, this was the one that was under the white canopy over by the old barn. It was for my friend, Mark Moses. It is a 9' Bald Eagle. I tried to make it look like the eagle was soaring over a rocky peak. On the peak are carved an Indian Chief, a buffalo and a wolf. Kinda like the Mt Rushmore of the Native American. Mark wanted a tribute of sorts to the American Indian. The people, not the motorcycle. Actually the eagle is true to lifesize with a 7' wingspan. I actually like the way this one turned out and I am my worst critic. It is very bold, imposing and makes a statement. Lots of detail. Many hours. Mark is displaying it in the front window of his dealership. Awesome. Weighs well over 1/4 a ton. The wood is Sycamore. Sycamore used to be very plentiful around here, but is somewhat rare and survives only in wetlands and bottoms. This tree was about 100 years old. Very hard, dense wood. Like mohagany. Very beautiful grain. Thanks to Mark for allowing me to carve this. Edited October 30, 2013 by badndn

He says the wood talks to him. Check it out. http://vimeo.com/72869124 I am familiar with his work. He does some awesome stuff. Little eccentric but he believes in his work. I admire that. I too, enjoy taking God's work and tweaking it a little. Those who have been to the barn have seen what I am talking about. I also understand what he means by the wood talking to you. When I started the eagle for Mark, I had an idea in my head. I ran it by Mark and he liked it. But he gave me artistic license so to speak and The other stuff kinda just happened. Weird actually. Doing something like this or creating something is the only time I am truly happy and satisfied.

badndn
Thanks for the compliments. It inspires me and keeps me going. I have a few other things I am finishing up. A couple of things for forum members here. Next big carving project will be a full size wolf howling at the moon. It is sold already. Guy wants to sit it on his porch by his front door. He has a cabin in the woods. Better have some strong support under that porch. I may start roughing it in tomorrow. My friend Shari Propst (some have met her, I call her Precious) does volunteer work for a Marine Group made up of retired and disabled Marine vets. They have an annual Christmas Ball for them and it is this Saturday. I am making a Podium for them to stand behind as they speak. They were using a piece of particle board crap and in my mind that just ain't cutting it for these men who have gave so much. I will make them one that does them the honor and respect they deserve. That ones a freebie. Also got some special stuff that my friends here on the forum may be interested in. I will post pics etc. when done. Thanks again for the kind words.
