firebird77clone
Hey yall. It took a year, but I got my disability rating from the va. I went to the local clinic and signed in, was told it would be four months for an appointment, else I could come in as a walk in, which would probably be comparable to an er visit, ie 4-8 hours. Is this the future of America's healthcare?
LabRat
Thanks for you service and welcome to Ameritopia. We're self employed and buy our own insurance. Wife got notification that she and my daughter can't keep their policy because it is being cancelled due to the changing mandates. The policy was not grandfathered in. mycorn
Is this the future of America's healthcare? it is if you're gonna use the VA it's easier to just not get sick... i'm waiting to see what happens if i inherit enough IRA from my pop to make me ineligible i'l bet the VA is exempt from "you cant be dropped " by your insurance mh

( Reno, Minden ) It took two years for my disability however, as it is done in Oakland, Ca.
Brock
I still have not gotten recognition for some injuries during my 20+ years so right now I have absolutely no disability noted even though I have messed up shoulders, messed up knee, concussions, and more going wrong. Get tired fighting the system but reckon I will try again this year.... Congrats on getting yours on file finally....not so much on the managed health care. CHIEF DOC 99
Can't count on the Veteran's Administration to build a healthy body ~ the body will heal it's self given the proper nutrition, exercise and rest. Takes years for VA to acknowledge a claim, unless you're missing a limb...or worse. Nam had agent orange cases, Gulf war has radioactive poisoning cases from handling depleted uranium ordanance as yet unacknowledged.
Travlur
I've got a good friend that finally got Agent Orange status from VA.. Only took him about 3 years of red tape to get it. However, now that they gave it to him, they bend over backwards for him on anything medical.
DienCaiDau
I have a 100 percent rating for a long time. I use the VA facility in Manchester NH and that place is getting extremely bad. Had three appointments cancelled in a row, without any notification until I showed up. Had another 9 AM appt that was cancelled while I was waiting to see the Doc. The list just goes on and on...one doctor says I have high blood pressure, even though he didn't check it. My primary care says I do not have high blood pressure... Be very careful when using the VA. They are becoming overwhelmed with all the men and woman coming home now, and they're not adding any more staff.... Thanks for protecting us and serving.... Make sure you get a copy of your military medical records as well as your 201 file (personnel file). Just fill out an SF-180, fill it out and send it off. It can take a bit of time, but you'll get it and should be very helpful with your VA claim.

Carpal tunnel from excessive jacking off does not count. Friend of mine gets 55% disability from Army and he lifts weights everyday and runs 5 miles. Go figure. Another one gets 100% disability because he got schrapnel in his ass. Works full time for his Dad off the books. Yet another gets 100% for PTSD and is happier than me. maybe it's the drugs. We going down.

For those with comparitivly minor disabilities that know how to' work the system' and do so to the hilt ~ life is good. There are many, probably a vast majority, who do not know how or wish to know how to 'work the system' for whatever personal reason, that suffer silently and needlessly. We will always have some con artists and grifters hooked up to the government tittie and "gettin' over" like all the career politicians/"public servants" are. When you sign up to serve, the VA becomes your health plan but you must apply for the benefits to recieve help. Many choose not to apply at all. LabRat
Badndn, what are you thinking? With NSA pulling in all your meta-data, I wouldn't be surprised to see SWAT teams at their houses now. Unless they're liberals, then they will be invited to the White House Christmas party.

As was stated, get a copy of you medical record. However, if you do not know how to go about this, it is quite easy, actually. You can go here https://www.ebenefits.va.gov/ebenefits-portal/ebenefits.portal Your service to protect our families and our country is of course greatly appreciated, and the fact that you are less than fully functioning after this great service, is our responsibility to take care of your issues. When you signed that contract, it went both ways, and part of it was your continued if needed care. I have no problem paying my taxes to fund facilities that provide for those that served and for the continued care they deserve. You deserve it ! You did what many will not, and you were injured keeping us out of harms way. You can also go here for any documentation requirements. You really should sign up for both https://vabenefits.vba.va.gov/Vonapp/default.asp I have no complaints about my care, the good folks doing the providing, really seem to care, as they volunteer to work at a VA facility, it is not an assigned duty, where they are forced to go, so most are vets themselves or family of vets. Please take care of yourself.
maninbox
Good on you for getting the paperwork done and seeing it through. 4 months seems pretty fast. Around here, I worked the paperwork for years and still did not get it done. I went to the local VA hospital in person as I was told to do and when I saw just how many really needy veterans there were in there who waited a year plus for thier appointment, I decided to get out of there. Older disabled vets with no other option jammed into rooms and living in hospital hallways and basements because it's better than being homeless. I realized I am one of the lucky ones who had good insurance of my own and I know now more than ever that there are many who need the VA's help way more than me. I'll do without the disability payments. Nothing I can do to make that happen while I'm still employed. The VA is doing a real bad job in my opinion but it's not all thier fault. The whole system is designed to discourage qualified applicants and and limit benefits and government exposure to claims, even when legitimate.

Brock
i self copied my records when I was still going through process to retire so I have them all...thing is my dumb ass did not go to doctor for everything. First two dislocations I went...next one I did not...why bother all they do is give you motrine, tell you to immobilize the joint and let it heal. First three concussions same thing...so why go afterwards to fill out a dumbass head trauma report on how it happened...(yes I was playing football for military in europe and helmet collisions happen...duh!)...so why do that when they are going to say...no more football or martial arts for 3 months.....stay away first 12 hours....if you get dizzy or nauseous come back to see us to wait in ER another fucking 4 hours to be seen. No thank you. LOL Now I wish my records were thicker than 1 inch for 21 years...hahahaha

No thank you. LOL Now I wish my records were thicker than 1 inch for 21 years...hahahaha Actually, the way it works, has nothing to do with either the thickness of your record or amount of time served. If you were injured during service, and it is in your military medical record, or you can provide substantiation for your injury while in service, you will go to be evaluated, and state your case to an evaluation specialist. This may take several months after submission of your claim. Then, your case will be moved into a review process where the info you provided can either be proved or dis proved. Odds are, if you continue, or are having issues, that were exasperated or caused by military service, you will be approved for some level of disability. This in no way infringes on your ability to earn a living, it is considered compensation for your suffering, like constant ringing in your ears, that most of us grunt types, got from heavy live fire exercises, this is an automatic 10% rating plain and simple. If you are rated above 50%, your income is also no longer any type of indication or measuring stick for the amount of co pay you could be liable for at lower rates of compensation. The bottom line, this compensation, is in regards to pain and suffering in your day to day life, those remembrances of your service. It is not a scam for you, if you are truly damaged by what you did for us in your service to our country, are there scammers ? Of course, as in all walks of life, your not trying to change that. And patience on your claim is key. Do not be discouraged, the true purpose of this disability thing is for those of us who were permanently rendered less whole by our service to this great nation of ours. PM me if you have further questions. I can help get you steered in the direction of correct info on this.
Brock
during my retirement it was more of I had to prove the injury caused problems and disability...the injury is annotated but they said there was nothing to show a permanent or impaired injury.....almost felt like the VA and the military before I retired were challenged with disapproving as many claims as possible for financial reasons.....sent me for evaluation and said even though I only have two tendons connected in left shoulder....my knee and shoulder are full of arthritis and brusitis....my hearing seems worse after years of going out on flight lines during engine running weapon reloads to pre brief and debrief aircrew and special operators....or just flying hours and hours in back of helo going to a dz/lz.....or eyes that are far worse than the 20/10 per eye as tested halfway through my career to less than ten years later not being able to read something 50 feet away in large letters...to arthritis in hands and elbows and feet and neck from humping a ruck, military football, martial arts, running....exposure to malaria and giardia. They gave me clean bill of health after my checks at VA and said I was 100% and showed no degradation of limbs, joints or hearing after 20+ years of military service. LMAO I did not go back but think I will this year to try again....it has been 10 years since my last submission. Maybe my aching joints and having to stretch and walk like a 90 year old man in morning for a while before I can walk normal...or the constant deep dull pain in shoulder or the tingling in my arm from bone spurs pushing against nerves until they break loose only to grow back will convince them this time. LOL Thanks for the encouragement though....
