injun46
Wow, thanks for the post. Glad I run Metzlers. Had a blowout on the back of my 68 Bonneville, doing 85, coming back from the Peoria TT race, drunked up and smoked up, with my brother-in-law on the back. Luckily there was no oncoming traffic and the ditch was smooth and grassy and about 50' wide, cause we used every bit of it. Came to a stop upright, and suddenly we felt pretty sober. My father-in-law was behind us, and said watching that was better than the races. Hope never again. That was the last day for booze & reefer & a motorcycle. I have a D402 on my Chief? http://www.unsafemotorcycles.com/defect_victims.html Thanks for postin; got D402's on the F & B of the Spirit, we'll definetly be keepin an eye on em.. Hi-speed rear tire blowouts are scary and, can garner some violent reactions from the motorcycle at various speeds while deaccelerating during it.. I was lucky, Dave
seefriedm
I have 404 and 405's on my X, both have fubes due to spokes. Not sure about cause? Heat maybe due to a thinner shell? Dont know but blowouts can happen with any brand. Mark

I was lucky, Dave Whew, Just checked this last night on the Spirit, was concerned.. Actually have the Dunlop D404 on the Spirit.. The D402 is the H/D branded tire that Dunlop makes.. maninbox
I have always believed that there is much less chance of sudden deflation or blowout with a tubeless setup. It's the tubes that lose all the air all at once. Is this wrong?

It's the tubes that lose all the air all at once. Is this wrong? Thinking that the tube would probably not deflate as fast as a tire mounted without a tube, ie on a solid type wheel.. May be wrong but, it was a tubless that I had my rapid deflation experience with.. Dave
charliebates
A tube will tear when there is a puncture and will lose all air instantly through the spoke holes in the rim. They are not sealed. Where as a tubeless tire will not tear and the air has to leak through the puncture. Sometimes is just a slow leak and give notice and more time to slow up and get off the road safely. A cut tire will deflate right away , doesn't matter if a tube or tubeless set up. I don't like tubes and that's why I did the tubeless treatment on my Indian spokes. IHTH,...John
