Brock
film being released next week I think of a former Spec Ops MAC SOG soldier shot down and that never returend to US and is now still living in Vietnam....check it out. Only thing suspect for me is nobody in family will take DNA to prove he is really their father or brother....are they scared of losing their death benefits after all of these years? Or is it a real french-vietnamese fellow that knew the real person enough to pull off this charade? You would think a family would want to know as would US Govt...so refusing to take DNA to me sounds like they are avoiding the truth rather than "confirming" their emotional ties. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2316937/John-Hartley-Robertson-US-Army-veteran-living-Vietnam-village-44-YEARS-shot-down.html?ICO=most_read_module
Blu
My guess is that he must have really hated his wife and perhpas his kids to stay there after the war ended.

maninbox
I read that the American had a brain injury and could not remember much of his former life. He is obviously a round eye but he forgot how to speak english. Interesting story but don't know what is fact or fiction here. Micmac
I don't know why it couldn't be him. A lot stranger shit has happened. I remember when I was in my teens them still finding Japanese soldiers on some remote island that thought the war was still on.That was over 40 years I'm sure. If his sister is satisfied and does not want to test, that's her business. She's proved it to herself, and that's all that matters. Even if it isn't him, it brings the old lady some comfort in her waning years and how could that be a bad thing? What concerns me the most about the story is the 1st photo of Sgt. Robertson standing in front of the wooden barracks. It looks like he's at Camp MacKall on Bragg, but it could be anywhere in the world the army had BEQ. It reminds me of standing fire watch, now that was a pain in the ass!
Tahoe Chief
Ah, fire watch, good times. Only time in my life I fell asleep while walking, and did a face plant ! Good times indeed.
Brock
nothing like fire watch....checking butt cans, feeling power outlets and light switches, walking in circles to stay awake or not. LOL
Scalper38
I scared the shit out of guy on firewatch when I was in basic. He was sitting about 6 feet away from my bunk when leg cramps (just completed a 12 miler) shot me out of bed. I was writhing like a snake and he didn't know what to do. When they finally quit all he said was, "you all right?" I said yeah and went back to sleep. He probably did too.
Brock
just read where the military says they have investigated this same guy three times over past 30 years...he is a known scam artist...french born Vietnamese/french descent......... thought it fishy the guy remembers NO ENGLISH at all...nobody wants a DNA test....they could have swabbed the guy himself for DNA and figured out if he was at least whether he was vietnamese or a portion or not..... thought something was fishy...
