What We Should All Do But Don't Want To Think About

Recommended Posts

As some of you may already know, I'm a recently diagnosed diabetic and with some dramatic lifestyle changes and the proper medications I've learned to manage and live with my diabetes. I'm down 35 pounds, eating healthy, and my glucose levels have been consistently "normal" (I never thought I would actually enjoy being "normal").

Before adding exercise to my regime, at my doc's request I had a stress test - which didn't go well. My heart is fine at rest (BP 120/70 and BPM 66 - 70) but not so good under stress. So Monday I'll have an angiogram at Virginia Mason Hospital. If the cardiologist locates a blockage it will be corrected with a stent; if a stent can't correct it I'll need arterial by-pass surgery.

But that's not the point of this post . . . the point is, get yourselves a Living Will or Health Care Directive because if you need it and don't have it - it's too late. We're on our way to have ours witnessed and notarized so that we can leave a copy with our primary care physician. As a home office underwriter, you would have thought I would have done this long ago, but it was just recently I discovered I was mortal - what an epiphany.

So if you don't have a Living Will or a Health Care Directive, get one . . . especially if you ride. This document will be important should your family be faced with making critical decisions about your health care when you're incapable of doing so.

I'm looking forward to getting this all behind me . . . I'm visualizing a stent and not by-pass . . . hoping the Health Care Directive won't be needed . . . and hoping the weather continues to warm so Valerie and I can ride when this is all over.

Thanks to all of you for your support on the members forum - I can't begin to tell you how much that means to me. Keep your fingers crossed about 9 AM PST Monday!

As good as you are doing with reducing weight and your numbers at rest I am sure the most you will need is a stent. As you know by now that procedure is much easier to deal with for the patient and the recover time is quick and the best part the success rate is fantastic. Thanks for reminding people about the need for a living will, it will make a persons loved ones lives less chaotic in the event of loss. If I can be of assistance to you during your recovery send me a PM.

That's good advise TR!

Definitely going to get my power of medical attorney in order as I'm dealing with my own physlcal issues. Getting old can be really honked!

Prayers for a positive prognosis and your good health.

Regards

Kenai

Home . . . No blockages . . . clean as a whistle . . . cardiologist was pleasantly surprised and said I'd make a nice case study. Thanks for all the support.

Yep, it is a GREAT film, but the drinks are fucking AWFUL!!!! Believe me, I tried. Foamy and nasty all rolled into one.

If a person was really serious about this, I would suggest V8 and be done with it. Also, the mess the vegetables leave behind is astounding. Too much hassle to deal with honestly. But the movie is one of my all time favorites.

I finally kicked into gear ( again ) this year... watched this ... then "Forks over Knives" ... then... for the icing on the cake .. "Food inc" .. .. i'm sure there's another one or two out there worth watching.... Watching the 3 of these in the same week will have just about anyone twitching by the end .

All that being said, I love a juicy burger and a cold beer... but... damned if I didn't get my eyes opened up just a lil! Honestly has me operating just a lil differently in the grocery aisles.... crazy part is ... its HARD and EXPENSIVE to eat correctly in most parts of this country ...

...........damned I'm getting hungry just talking about this .. haha
