Polaris News And Price Point Info For 2013

Recommended Posts

"Polaris will relaunch Indian late summer/early fall 2013 with what we believe will be 3-5 skus addressing a broader segment of the 1400cc+ market (i.e. $15-35K price point.) Management believes Polaris’ combined (Victory/Indian) share can double to about 10 percent by the end of 2015 as the dealer base expands and additional skus are introduced."

My italics.

Allow me to translate from the 'economics-ese": SKU is 'Stock Keeping Unit', or in this case. a model type.

What they are saying is, there will be 3-5 models, ranging from $15K to $35K MSRP.

Sounds pretty excellent to me.

Yeah no way they will have a 15,000 Chief. I'm betting something more along the lines of a Scout.

I doubt that SKU means models. Probably different versions of the same model....the Chief

You could certainly be correct eddie...SKU's could mean different versions of the same model.

However, as the other guys noted, it'd be hard to spread one model across a 20 grand range..

Maybe. But I can't imagine two MODELS with only 5 sku's. Chief Standard, Chief Deluxe, Chief Vintage, Chief Roadmaster, Any number and manner of LE Chiefs. Not only been done before but has been the SOP since the beginning at Gilroy. Maybe the 15k sku is for a jacket.

A chief for $15,000??Doubt it!

When you can manufacture your own parts, the cost difference to build a Scout or a Chief base model is really small.

maybe that is their cost and not MSRP.... I dont see any Chief lower than the initial offering from Gilroy in the mid- $20,000 range...more like $24,000 if I was to guess. We shall see....not having to import frames and buy retail all of your parts since they are in such small batches...and being able to build your own in your own foundries and frame shops has to help the price some.

When I had my Cross Country Tour I kept reading on Victory forums about clutch cable's breaking and the dealer I bought it from even said they were having problems with clutch cables breaking so I got scared and bought me a emergency clutch cable kit but I did not keep it long enough for it to break. And the bottom of the saddle bags were not painted good looked just like over spray on them. Paint job was not as good as Harley. Hope they don't drop the Indian quality to get more/different models out. Now if they put a HID headlight (low beam) and it had a good high beam on like they do the Victory we will be able to see them deer a little better in the morning when I leave the house at 4:00 am for Austin.

$15K to $35K is not a price point, about as useful if I said the bikes will be between free and $100K Nothing has changed and there is nothing in this article that has any facts that can be relied on, or any facts at all. The people who know are not talking, period. Wild assumptions are always welcome, but no new info here.

The way I read it, maybe they are saying that Polaris/Indian will have 5 SKU's

ie.: Indian Chief, Victory Cross Country, Victory something else, Victory something else, etc...

In other words, 5 model lines in the $15-$35K range. Same as they have now. Besides, If Polaris motorcycle output increases 5 times to 60,000 to 70,000 units, this implies that Polaris only sells 12,000 to 14,000 units per year now. My guess is that they sell way more than that now. Something ain't right with the math in this article.

Every item has a specific SKU. Coors Light singles...SKU. Coors Light 6 pack...SKU. Coors Light case...SKU... Coors light keg...SKU...Then you have separate SKU's for Bottles, different for Regular Coors... Holiday Coors. etc.etc.. Describing a motrcycle model as an SKU is about as dumb and as elusive as you could possibly get. The way it was intended I am sure.

No they said Polaris Indian NOT Polaris Indian Victory.....they were just talking Indian and I tend to think it is as Eddie described...a SKU can be for even minor changes in same family model...

Darkhorse

Limited Edition

Classic Deluxe

Vintage

Bomber

BlackHawk

All these Chiefs have their own individual 'sku' identity code.

I believe the key words are 'broader segment' as opposed to what we have now ~ implies a Scout or Spirit price point bike to be introduced in 8 to 10 months from now.
