lschultz
This is what we came up on Tuesday morning at 4:45 am. Saw about 4 deer in ditch north bound. We also go slow thru this section of Hwy 95 always seeing deer and feral hogs. Slowed down as I approached the deer they were running toward the fence then down the road some I saw a motorcycle laying on its right side on the edge of the highway in some grass lights were still on. Wife thought it was our son but I told he did not ride his that morning he was in his car he was about 30 mins ahead of us. I tell my wife that is this fellows bike ( Yamaha Stratoliner) we have been meeting on this rode for about a year this time of the morning then I see him laying in the middle of the highway on his back. I hear him gargling when he breathe blood all over his face pool of blood under his head his baseball cap laying in road parts of motorcycle laying in road. I was talking to him but he was unresponsive. Wife called 911 do they were en route. Lights were coming southbound down road but he slowed down and stopped and went behind our to where the hill started and put his flashers on and he came back to help. Another truck coming northbound stopped and got in front of accident and put his flashers on he was a EMT headed to Round Rock. Then I here another car coming in southbound land and he was hauling ass. I was out there trying to flag him down and the SOB finally stopped told him what has happen and he just drove by real slow then the SOB was gone. All the SOB had on was a pair of cut offs. Fuck that sob. Ambulance finally got there and we got him on stretcher he did not moan holler nothing. Starflight finally got there and loaded him up and off they went to Austin. Talked to DPS this morning and they said he had to be resuscitated on way to hospital. He is in ICU but DPS said there was no activity upstairs. Found out he had DO NOT RESUCIATE but they did not find this out to after they had done it. Texas law they can not legally declare him dead for 30 days so I guess they keep him on life support unless a miracle happens and he comes out of it. Found out he is 53 and just started this job where ever he was working about a 1 ago. Thats about how long we have been meeting him on the highway. He would give us the wave when we met him on our bikes. Son said he was on his way home once and he was pulled on side of highway he stopped to see if he needed help but he was just looking at some horses in the pasture. Never say him driving fast on the highway. He had a skid mark on highway then we say where bike gouged highway then it was about 50 ' where it was laying on it side. The very sad thing about this the DPS said he had a full face helmet in the tour pak. I can close my eyes and I can see that bloody swollen cut up face laying on the highway. I am not going to preach about helmets cause it is your damn stupid asses choice but if you would of seen my son laying in the emergency room after that drunk sob turned in front of him and seeing this man laying on the highway and the sounds coming from him if might up some of you dumb smart ass fuckers eyes. To hell with you if you ain't got the sense God gave you. I have said enough so come on with your smart ass remarks. I am going to pray for this man.
Dr. Mark
Damn. Hate the hell outta that for his family and them. I have learned my freaking lesson the hard way. Got a kid that'll be here any day now, and I sure as hell want to see him grow up. Can't wait to embarass his ass by being the oldest daddy at his college graduation. Helmet. Body armor. If it's too hot to wear it, then it's too hot to fucking ride.

Prof. O
Sorry to hear about the rider, but these two comments seem to get at the classic American debate. Do I have the right to be stupid with my body. Somehow I think we will never solve this argument. Each of us will have to decide what consequences we want our love ones to live with from our search for individualism.
Brock
life is full of risks...some rock climb, some skydive, some are demolitions experts, some are fighter pilots or cops, and some choose simple, less threatening professions and hobbies. It is all about choices... I played football, rugby, participated in martial arts, joined military, volunteered to be a special operator, ended career doing more than any of my peers in threatening situations and austere conditions, I ride a motorcycle, flew low level ops in helicopters, backseat in F-16I bow hunt from the ground and tree stands, I carry a weapon almost every day, i have hunted bear, wild boar and other dangerous game, i hiked 5 miles through hostile territory in Uganda to get back to my team rather than wait for pickup the next morning............any and all of these could have gone bad....it is all a choice and we take our chances to do what we love. I dont want someone telling me I cant rock climb or jump out of airplanes or hunt bear with a longbow from the ground.... I feel for the family and the gentleman....but brain dead from car wreck, fall from a ladder, or motorcycle is still brain dead. The costs or impact is not more just because he was on motorcycle instead of on a ladder stringing Christmas lights. Everyone seems to put more impact on it from biker standpoint in my opinion.... Just glad to have right to choose....

Dr. Mark
Well, we live in a country where, for the most part, we have the right to make those choices. Life is all about choices. If your choice is to not wear a helmet, then that's cool. That's your choice. The unfortunate thing is our decisions do not take place in a vacuum. The guy in the lane right next to you on the freeway? His choice is to do 80 while texting. The idiot in the pickup truck coming your way on a curvy two lane? His choice was to have about 10 or 12 drinks on the way home from work. The 16 year old at the side street up ahead? Her boyfriend's choice was to break up with her, and she is now crying so hard she doesn't see you coming. The redneck in the car in front of you? Never checks to see if their brakelights work or not. They don't. Then, of course, there all the factors that are totally out of our control, regardless of our choices: Mr. Grease Spot. Mr. Gravel Patch. Mr. Pothole. And my personal favorite..Mr. Hydroplane. Let's face it, we all love a sport that is inherently dangerous. There is nothing wrong with taking some reasonable precautions to increase your survivability. But that's each of our individual choice. My choice is to (preferably) not be a drooling idiot, pissing and shitting myself in the back ward on the ventilator unit of some long term care facility, if I can help it. My personal feeling about helmet laws, and I've stated this before, is that you sign your donor card, and you shouldn't have to wear shit. Slap on your cutoffs and flip-flops if that's what you wanna ride in, and, hey, off you go. Your choice.
CHIEF DOC 99
What you need is a FORCEFIELD Yep a forcefield with selective cloaking device would be just the ticket.
Potter7
I think we should all just stay in your house with the lights off. Very safe and you only have to worry about a plane crashing into your home or getting hit with blue ice.

I remember someone on FB last year complaining about Bike Night here locally ... he didn't like riding at night, traffic ( cagers ), etc.. my response: Sell the Bike ..... went over pretty well! badndn
If you don't want to leave an orphan or a widow...don't ride a motorcycle. The decision to ride one is indeed a selfish one. So are alot of things. I wish y'all would stop the preaching about fuckin helmets. We are adults here. lschultz
I did not sleep to good last night wife went to New York then on to Canada with her sister and her husband. Got a little cool front down here so windows were open and laying in bed hearing all the usual sounds of the night thinking about that man and his family. I found out where he lives and thats probably 30 miles from accident and its all two lane farm to market road he travels. I would say he probably leaves his house 3:15-3:30 in the mornings to get where accident happened. I go down that road twice a day sometimes more. To walk up on him laying in middle of road shine a flash light on him and see his head thats going to take a while to get over it. i have seen a few bodies in my time but this one just hit home more maybe cause we had met him on the road so many times, he rides a motocycle, he was from sorta the area I grew up in. Son said he was coming home from work one day and this fellow was parked on the side of the road so my son stopped to see if he needed any help and he told my son he was just looking at these horses in the pasture. Yep it is your choice so do what you want to but I don't want to put my family thru something like this. I did for a while when I hit a tree in my truck no seatbelt had a head injury. Doctors were preparing my wife for a vegetable but I had a lot of people praying for me and a miracle happened and I slowly came out of it. i still have some problems but we are getting thru it. I was blessed to marry a lady that is very religious. How we ever got to gather I don't know. I was a wild ass drinking partying chasing women fighting (yep I got my ass wiped a few times) sob. My son and I rode our bikes to work this morning leave house at 4:15 but till we got to Smithville we were going slow and looking and this morning did not see a damn thing. i have hit more critters from our house to next town about 19 miles but it has been in car or truck. Son hit a coon back in 05 when he had a Sportster but he did not loose it. So far I have not hit anything on the motorcycle. I am 64 now so if I go down I know it is going to hurt. When you are older you hit the ground it is with a thub you don't bounce up like you use too. Ride what you want, ride like you want, wear what you want just be careful. God Bless Bro' .... can only imagine the emotions that run through one during an ordeal like this. I've come up on a few accidents, and shook like a leaf later on after getting the blood off my hands... caught me completely off guard ( emotions ) . .. along with some of what you've said.. my wife wouldn't ride with me for 18 years until our daughter was out of school ( she rode with my crazy ass when i was younger ..before I calmed down). That being said..... Life is a crap shoot. Riding a bike is a daily E Ticket Ride. But.. life is good . We all enjoy it our own way ....
