darkrider
vtwins. I know it still looks cool as hell. and Harley copied Indian back in the day. and, fuel injection, overhead cam, gearing....has "kinda" helped it keep up today, or at least relevant. but everytime I do a net search on something I'm curious about, I keep constantly seeing people saying that these modern day (even km/polaris) Indians still just remind them of a harley with big fenders. I know thats knda a undersight, but I do see where their coming from. especially with a side-by-side profile with the right model harley. what could be a bigger differance for polaris to finally break away from that stigma than to ditch the outdated vtwin. I'm all for it. much easier it would be to bring back serious ass kicking hp numbers right out the factory, right?
IndianTrue
I must be out of touch I suppose, when a Harley drives by I think hey there goes another Harley, when an Indian drives by my heart skip's a beat then starts beating fast for the next few minutes while I'm getting light headed. So I take it my brain is not feeling the same way about close comparisons between the two manufacturers. Yep I just checked, went into the garage and my Indian has me light headed again. Dr. Mark
I talked to Greg Brew about this last year. They are well aware of the fact that Indian has had about every type engine you could imagine in their vehicles, from singles and twins to 4's, and the idea of a 4-cylinder Indian is very appealing to them....however, they feel that they will have to have a V twin in the armamentarium due to the facts that: (A) They are popular. (B ) Indian had them first. And they are planning on utilizing the history of the marque heavily. (C ) They look cool. (D) They sound cool. On the positive side, sooner or later there will be other powerplants....
badndn
what can you do with two wheels, a seat, an engine? Nothing new under the sun. Maybe there is....wait a few months....
Necron99
what can you do with two wheels, a seat, an engine? Nothing new under the sun. Maybe there is....wait a few months.... Well Honda did have the improbable V5 Moto GP bike. Who would've thought a V5 would work? But why must it be different? Different for the sake of being different? It's simple: A sub 1000cc standard with sub 500lb weight, and a resonable price. Last time I looked Kawasaki sold a ton of the 650 Ninja twins, Suzuki sold a ton of SV 650's, Ducati sells a ton of Monsters, the BMW F800 series has been successful, the Triumph Bonnie is a hit. SO will Indian make a go at that market?

IndianTrue
Polaris has always had their finger on the very cool looking pulse so look forward to great things in the near future, you will also be able to use your saddle bags for things other than tool boxes. Indian has always been the thing to own and will always be the thing to own get used to it.
darkrider
I getthe whole "WE where the first v-twin" and all that stuff. which is cool, and does deserve bragging rights. but what about maybe "been there, done that, and now everybody else (american) HAS been doing that". why not be the trendsetter and the chance taker, once again? I wonder, kind've judging by dr marks input, if we really are gonna see a some major marketing advertising around the whole first vtwin thing. however, jmo of course, if their going to just round off the cyl fins and try to "retro" up that victory motor.... I wonder if the remarks will change over to "looks like a victory with big fenders". (assuming the big fenders stay)

If Indian is to be taken seriously by people beyond owners like you find here on this site, then they MUST come out with clean sheet design owing nothing to other makes be it HD or Victory. They need to redeine themselves like Bloor did with Triumph and not go down the road Norton has been taking for the last...what decade now? Sheesh...
