Dr. Mark
Truly a passing of a real American hero. I remember sitting in a darkened living room, watching the amazing pictures on a tiny black and white TV with my family. Then, later, my little brother and I took turns making 'one giant leap' from the front steps of our house. I remember how proud I was of our country, and how bright the future seemed to look. We could, and would, do anything, and everything. We stood at the dawn of a new age. I remember thinking how lucky I was, to live in what was surely the greatest time in history, in the greatest country ever. Now.....I was stunned to see where NBC had reported on Neil Armstrong's death as "Neil Young, first man to walk on moon, dies at 82." This, from the people who give us tape-delay Olympics, and pre-empted the climax of the closing ceremonies to run their new animal sitcom. Good God... Even more amazing is to go on the news websites, and read all the comments from young people who truly believe it was all a hoax because "we have much better technology now and we can't go to the moon..." Or the ones who believe that you can't go to the moon because the 'solar radiation' will burn you up...so it must have been a government hoax. There is no hope for the world. None. Our next generation is (mostly) a whiny pack of self-absorbed, tweeting, Jersey-shore-watching, reality-TV obssessed idiots. God help our country and the world. RIP, Neil. A generation mourns you. You represented the best of us.

Rustrtal
One day he will be recognized along with Magellan, Columbus and the like despite the current media. Armstrong spoke out against Obama's kiss of death to the space program and has been ignored by the liberal media because of it. I personal hope to see him laid to rest in the Rotunda.
Micmac
He should have a state funeral with full military honors. People don't realize how big your balls had to be to do something like the Apollo boys did. Those of us that lived in the pre-x box world understand that. The US was a force to be reckoned with. The Ruskies and Chinks or the European space agency still has not attained that feat we did because of guys like Armstrong putting it on the line.Funny, I was watching Pawn Stars last night and a guy brought in Apollo 11 "food" that was packed in mylar. Commonplace now in everyday lives, way modern for our 1969 Zeitgeist.

As a result of "Our Dear Leader"' NASA is now nothing more than a Muslim outreach program. He has the head of NASA tasked with running around touting the Muslim's scientific (IED technology?) contributions over the centuries. We are in dire straights. This administration re-writes history better than the Soviets ever did. Joe Paterno (and his poor players) didn't really win those 109 games. Lance Armstrong didn't really win those 7 Tours. The Muslims have greatly contributed to science. If you all are interested, the authorized autobiography of Neil is entitled "First Man"; came out a few years ago and is a great read. I truly believe after reading it that the Hand of God was involved in Neil's life not only once, but on at least four accounts IMHO did he escape death. He is from my home state and inspired me from my earliest memories as a child to become a pilot. May he rest in peace and his family be comforted at this time.
