darkrider
Actually happened awhile ago, but wanted to wait to make sure everything was actually happening before I say thank you on a public board. My closest dealer where I bought my Indian was 5 hours away. through out the summer last year I had a handful of warranty issues come up. I put them off or fixed some myself to get me through the summer so I wouldn't have to make a special trip back to chicago and be without a bike during the summer. I figured I'd take the bike back and get the warranty and recall/update work done all at the same time. however, winter comes, and I find out the chicago dealer went belly up. that leaves my closest Indian dealer options starting at 9+ hours away. The dealer at Charlotte had offered to take care of me, no problem, so did the fargo dealer. I had actually went forward with getting issues emailed to them to get me going on the process before I got there. I chose Fargo Indian because they are only one I know currently offering a power commander upgrade. Bob at Fargo even offered to meet me several hours closer to save me time and gas. Indian being owned by polaris,... I went to the polaris dealer 3 minutes from my work to talk to them about it. It was the first time any of them had seen the new km era Indians, but they where extremely nice and really wanted to help me out. even stayed after work hours going back and forth with polaris reps. They where told polaris wanted to keep Indian warranty work specifically at the Indian dealerships for the time being. (which I can semi understand, knowing what I know now). I had even been informed via email from polaris that unfortunetly all they can do to help me is give me a list of "closest" Indian dealers to me So I figured I am just going to have to suck it up. I knew damn well I was buying a new bike hours away from the dealer when I bought it. It just sucks that I have to take vacation time off work and spend literally hundreds in gas to trailer my Indian to a dealer for warranty and recall work. then another Indian rider local sends me a text and says to call the twin cities dealer. he said he contacted them through facebook and told of my situation. he got a response to have me call them and they'll see what they can do to help. so I called them. really nice people and was very polite on the phone. the dealer thanked me for buying Indian and expressed that polaris buying Indian is going to be a good thing (I had expressed I was NOT a fan of polaris, to him, lol! He said if ultimately nothing else could be done, he could take care of me at his dealership which is a couple hours or so closer than Fargo. so a couple days later, I get a call from Polaris asking how they can take care of me I thought it was one of my buddies mucking with me at first and almost told him to go pound sand, lol! so I said that there is a polaris dealer (not Indian) just a few minutes from me, and they are awesome guys and want to help me, so why can't I just get it done there? He said he'd call them first to confirm they where ok with it. then I get a call back and he says its a go! FRICKIN AWESOME!!! Thank you Polaris!!!! also got a couple explanations from polaris on some of the unfortunate issues they've had to work through, that they inherited from the km group (mostly parts stuff) so again, thank you polaris! now don't let me down on the design of the new Indian, lol! and thank you Twin Cities Indian! You saved me from having to take off work, and at least a couple hundred bucks in gas money! Thats awesome service from a Indian dealer for not even haveing to go in the shop Edited April 27, 2012 by darkrider
Harleynot
Did you pick up a few Sausages while you were there ? They sure do spam me about the Mexican meat Sticks for sale...you'd think being next door to Wisconsin, they would not have to go too far to find Brats to hustle during the Winter...... glad you got your "Extra Zing" added though...congrats ! Dr. Mark
DR, glad you got your issues taken care of, but since I have absolutely nothing good to say about that particular dealer, I'll just STFU. Over and out.

darkrider
I sure hope so! I know there's lots of opinions on people's experience with differant dealers. I respect that. but this was mine. they even called me back along each step of the way to make sure things where moving forward. maybe someday there will be a dealer here in st. loo. and hopefully a full blown indiandealership, not a couple Indians looking outta price and outta place in the corner of a victory/atv store. they should start out with a small building and work their way up. never could understand dealers for a new company wanting to start outta the box with a mega showroom paying $2,500 plus for building rent. course, if we had a dealer here, I'd probably be limited to one visit per week. I'd be there everyday to drool and talk indian bs
Brock
to bad that guy that was west of St Louis is still not there...cant remember his name but his wifes father owned a few dealerships....and he took over an empty dealership and turned into Indian setup during Gilroy days. Very nice guy, very nice wife....competent mechanic it appeared from my time visiting with him. They folded after Gilroy shut its doors..... Sam Hayne
DR, Art is a different kind of guy. He's someone you either like or hate from everything I have seen him do. Me personally, I do not have any issues with him. I also now he has ramped up his service department now that he also has Victories on his floor. 1 of his guys really knows alot about the Gilroy Indians. That being said, I have also only purchased clothing & my highway pegs from him. So really to this point, he is the same to me as Mark in Charlotte or Indian of Daytona. Those are probably the 3 places I have purchased most of my stuff from. Although most of my parts have come from Mark in Charlotte. However, until I buy a bike from someone & get screwed over, none of my purchases are anything major. Art also hasn't done anything to me personally....but others can't say that here. KenB
I'll be up in NoDak for the PC5 install next month. After the install I plan on hanging around a couple of days in case of trouble with the bike before i head back home to Colorado. I'm planning on rolling down to the twin cities area to check out the dealer there. It will be interesting to check out their dealer. Prof. O
I hope to see you as well. But a correction, TC Indian has only a mechanic on board and he is not working full time. Great guy, and they have a new service manager. I will let them alone because there too much to dish out. I promised myself to not work against them and let them prove their worth on their own merit. Sam Hayne
I dunno Prof O...I think I have seen you in some of Art's photos on his rides.......LOL Trust me, I have seen alot of things Art says on the net. However, he has yet to do anything to me. I also think his new mechanic & service manager want to do a good job & do things right by Indian Owners. My wife is from Lakeville, so I will be up there many times this summer, the 24th will be the next time. One of the times I'm almost thinking of letting them change my oil & transmission fluid, just to see what they are like. I respect everyone & their opinions. The thing for me is, Art is the only Indian dealer anywhere close to me. I am not going to be able to get to Charlotte. Also doubt I'll be going to Fargo either. I could end up near Dick Scott in Detroit at some point. That leaves me with Art. That means I will give him a chance until I get screwed over by him. Until then I will hold no grudges against him. HHHMMM, Maybe I need to open an Indian dealership in Green Bay ....Nick's BMW is now carrying Victories, so not sure how that would work, but I know they ARE NOT carrying Indians..... Sam Hayne
I agree Prof. O.....If the mechanic & service manager know Gilroy's & KM's like they seem to in talking on the phone & e-mail.. just 1 more place to get help & you don't even need to talk to Art to do it either
troll
The Indian dealer in St. Louis (Illinois) was Meyer in Belleville, where I got my bike. Another one was a Dodge car dealer in Manchester, I don't remember the name. An independent shop (also in Belleville) may have bought their stock of parts, but I didn't feel good about them after discussing some issues - I didn't think they had the Indian know-how I was looking for, so I just do the work myself. Harleynot
kinda the way I feel too, Sam. I had a great first experience, I gotta give credit where it is due. ...that's what she said... http://stillwater.patch.com/articles/co-owner-of-indian-motorcycles-charged-with-felony#comment_3431674 ************************************************************************************************************************* Co-owner of Indian Motorcycle of the Twin Cities Faces Felony Property-Damage Charge A 35-year-old Stillwater man who is the co-owner of Indian Motorcycle of the Twin Cities allegedly crashed his truck into a Forest Lake woman's garage door after she refused to meet him for a job interview. A 35-year-old Stillwater man faces a felony property-damage charge after he allegedly drove his vehicle into a Forest Lake woman’s garage door after she refused to meet him for a job interview. Arturo Eguia-Welch was charged by the Washington County Attorney’s Office this week with first-degree criminal damage to property for allegedly backing his truck into the woman’s garage door. According to the Minnesota Secretary of State website, Welch owns Indian Motorcycle of the Twin Cities. The woman told Forest Lake police that on March 2 she was texting Welch about a job opening at Indian Motorcycle of the Twin Cities. In response to the woman's inquiry, Welch responded with remarks insinuating “if she had sex with him or sent some ‘naughty or enticing’ pictures” he may consider giving her the job, the complaint states. The woman reportedly told Welch she would not do either. That’s when Welch allegedly sent a text message saying he would come to her house to meet with her. The woman responded with a text stating: “No I don't want u here." Welch then drove to the woman’s house and when he arrived sent two more messages, the complaint states. The first text allegedly reads, "I'm here" and the second contained the license plate number of the woman's vehicle. The woman turned over all of the text messages as evidence in the case, the complaint states. The woman told police that after she refused to answer the door or meet with Welch, she heard a loud bang as if her garage door had been hit. Upon investigation, police believe a truck hitch hit the woman’s garage door causing about $1,289 in damage. According to court records, Welch has retained an attorney from the Washington County Public Defender's Office. A call to his attorney requesting comment on the allegations has not yet been returned. darkrider
well.... I've never met the guy in person or spent anytime with him. some of you have. but if I have to make a comment based on that article and only that article so far.... I would have to look at it subjectively till I know facts. in my short time on this earth...in every single case I've witnessed or read about in cases that appear to be like this one, ....every single one has been the same. I even hate to bring up the "statistics don't lie" statement because statistics DO indeed sometimes lie, but I digress... girl wants job girl mildly flirts, or overly flirts, or downright takes all the way to the image of a slut to try and get hired the male employer involved lets his guard down and gets careless and acts or caters along to whatever degree girl doesn't get job (or) changes mind about job for X reason girl sees a way to incriminate for $$$ and or revenge oppurtunity the rest is always history and then there could be the chance that the male involved is just a conceited douche-bag that picked on the wrong wholesome and completely truthful and innocent female. I don't know the facts. but if the only case filed is a property damage for a garage door. then none of us will. either way, none of it looks good at all for art welch, especially if theres some incriminating text. (ouch!) and I'm not trying to defend the guy or make excuses for him, so if anybody jumps in and starts accusing me of that, then go take a long walk off a short pier. I still have to stand by the fact that a Indian dealer that didn't know me from adam, went out of their way to help me get my Indian mc taken care of, and was able to get it done, and showed nothing but professionalism to me through out the entire process. not that any of this matters any, at this point,.....cause at the end of the day, the only thing important here is ME!!! and what I, and all of you, need to be concerned about next.... is that the coolest damn motorcycle ever concieved (my 2010 darkhorse).... is going to get its mapping update That is the only thing that the polaris here local couldn't do. So I am scheduled to get it taken care of at the closest Indian dealer (Twin Cities Indian) here in the next couple weeks. I will get back here and give a honest review of how that goes after its done. Provided it does end up still getting done there

darkrider
thanks prof, i think, lol. not sure I follow you. Im kind of at the mercy of the clisest indian dealer, in a sense. Since Im going to be in waterloo anyway, I might as well drive a little further and get it knocked out. If I end up meeting the owner of the dealership while Im there, I will thank him for taking care of me and will even probably buy something that says Indian on it. Im not interested in talking about this recent news story with him. I havent been to a Indian dealer since buyin my ride, it'll be cool to see a Indian showeoom again
