The rumor is they are going to build a bike. It will have a seat, handlebars, and tires.

What about propulsion? :banghead:

& that sticker on that will be....what...about $40K????

Sorry, I am having a hard time with the prices they want to keep. I understand Gilroy & Kings Mountain were not giant billion dollar a year companies that churned out the numbers of a Harley or Honda....but Polaris is & if they truely want the brand to take off, they need a drop in price. I dunno, maybe if they keep it a "premium brand" with the high sticker & are ok with selling 700 Indians a year, they will be fine & keep it around for a long time, but I don't buy it.

It's business & the goal is to have sales & I just don't see alot of sales at $25K & up.

HD street glide with flat black paint is $19K. You are getting hard bags, fairing, stereo....just no passenger back rest or back bag.

flat black Darkhorse $26K - no bags, no windshield, no 2 up seat, no highway bar

Just saying....Indian's would sell alot more with even $7K knocked off their prices. Darkhorse at $19K, now that is something they could market to many more people. Chief Vintage for $28K instead of $35K.....I'm mean it's still $10K more then the Road King, but better then $17K more....for the Price of a Chief Vintage you could buy a Road King & a Fat Boy.....or a Victory...

Again, Love Indian & want them to do very well & stay for good this time. Just not sure with the prices on them.

Polaris has confirmed that if they maintain the current quality of the bike that we should not expect the prices to lower much for the first year or two and even then will be minimal using current parts and such.....it is just what the bike costs. Now when they build their own flavor of the Indian Chief and other models and have a bunch of Indian built parts rather than from outside vendors.....then it may come down even more but time will tell. Their comments more than once told us the bike was priced about right given the level of quality and cost of parts being used in the bike. It is what it is...but I am not thinking $24-26k is too much when Gilroy when for $19-26k in their era over 10 years ago....

But where do you see these prices? I have seen Darkhorses listed at $26 & Vintages at $36 on almost every dealer site.

This forum shows they quality is something they better not keep the same, but rather improve greatly.

Still, that said, when they can sell the Victory Highball for $13K...how is it not possible to make a Chief for closer to $20K?

All in all, just saying, if they want alot of these to sell, it won't happen when you are charging between $10K & $25K more then HD & getting less add ons.

Like I said, if you figure a Chief is like a Road King - & many will say it isn't because the Road King has a touring chasis - You can pick up a Road King for $19K. Now to get the bags & windshield & highway bars on your Indian like a Road King comes with, you have to buy the Vintage, so $36K or just about twice as much....That is a very hard sell.

The Prices on the Gilroys made them much closer to their HD counter parts. My Softail Standard was $16K. My guess is the Scout was close to the same bike. The Scouts if I remember were $19K......You could convince someone to pay $3K more for the Indian, but double, not sure....a few yes. & I'm not talking the people who already bought one & are willing to do it so the can own an Indian. I'm talking Joe public, the average guys & gals who HD & Victory target to make their 3rd quarter profits increase.

Chief Standard is $26k on website now......that allows you to buy your own windshield, bags, seats, etc as time and money permits and still get into the Chief with lots of chrome, installed rear footpegs and all the other items that come with the higher priced models. Dont have to buy KM accessories.....EasyBrackets will mount to eyebrows with your choice of heavy leather bags to give you a nice quality leather saddlebag option with fringe like I did on my RHB with Chilhowee bags. You can buy an Indian windshield setup or buy the Road King with removable hardware...then purchase some slightly longer bolts for upper forks where spots mount and rubber grommets with brass inserts for gas tanks and for less than $200 have a nice removable windshield which is exactly what I also did on my RHB...then added Corbin Dual Tourer seat with backrests...new exhaust....new curve on ignition...rejetted carb....and other stuff. Yep it was more money but it was mine and allowed me to get my indian NOW and upgrade it to what I wanted later.

Same can be done now....

I do think once Polaris starts making their own engines, transmissions, frames, controls, bars, etc......all in house for Indian...that the prices will drop in couple years as they wont have to pay markup to a vendor or distributor....little to no shipping....and they can control manufacturing process. As long as they keep quality as good or better then I am all for it. I just dont want them to lower prices to sell more bikes and have them falling apart and failing to run when you turn the key. We already had that with Gilroy....more than we wanted or deserved.
