Wondering if anyone saw Pawn Stars last night? Rick offerred $80,000 on a 1940 Indian 4 owned by Steve McQueen and the owner turned it down. Looked like it needed a good bit of work. Anyone see the show have any thoughts on value of the bike?

any piece of kit is worth exactly what the

buyer is willing to pay and

the seller is willing to take at the time

in a perfect sale

no one is happy

unfortunately

the planet thinks fours are worth more

than i'l ever be able to afford...

Indian 4 full fender Chief that has been fully reconditioned are worth around $60K. I looked into them last year and that seemed to be the going price. Does the Steve McQueen factor add in value, yes but an extra 20K and it's not rebuilt yet......... Seller probably missed an opportunity. Usually the guys on that show consult with experts on really iconic or unique items before they make an offer to the seller.

Daytona HD has a 2008 Elvis Replica bike listed at $60K.

I thought the seller missed an opportunity also. The Steve McQueen factor is cool, but not sure of actual value. I almost bought Sonny Bono's Patek Phillipe wristwatch once, but they wanted too much premium for Sonny.

Joel, Rossmeyer actually had a large series of the Elvis replicas made and that is the last of the bunch...all sold at that premium pricepoint!

I don't remember the actual manufactured number offhand ~ I would say over 50 and less than 100 units.

The Pawn Guys always consult experts and rarely get taken to the showers on their aquisitions ~ they are in Las Vegas a perfect place for upscale PawnBroking Business.

I bet Leno would offer more for that Four and find someone willing to cherry it out for a reasonable price, too. It is the McQueen factor that would push value to as much as double or triple the price of a Four owned by Joe Public.

Probably bring $250,000 minimum in pristine condition at Christy's or Southby's.

The Pawn Guy Dickheads always try to steal items at 20 to 30% of the actual value.

A buddy of mine was recently contacted by the little guy on American Pickers.

Heard thru grape vine about his knucklehead.

They would only go $45k.

I was more impressed by the Gatling Gun on last nights show....

I stopped in Daytona HD to compare 30K and up bikes to Indians. Needed to justify the KM Indian price tag in my own head. Lots of custom bikes and the place is HD Mecca. Rossemeyer passed away 2 days before I got to Sturgis a couple of years ago so I had to stop in and say a little prayer for the guy and his store. Anyway, if a bike is heavily customized, hand built, and or has lots of one of a kind leather, chrome, big engine, etc. the bike is gonna be 30K and up. Unless it was made in Asia or or Iowa. Ooooh the Vicsters are gonna get me. :Beer-Chug[1]:

Slide show below is custom HD bikes with hefty price tags. All nicer looking in person especially the Elvis bike. When you go back and look at generic HD bikes, especialy the stripped down no frills models, you then understand why they are in the 10-20 grand range. Indian bikes are simply way nicer than the non custom HD bikes and thus the higher price tag. Like a Gilroy, one you get here running right and consistent, you forget about the price tag.

I'm not sure how to take that. It does seem your comparing a highly customized, high dollar bike to a mid-price, solid, American made bike and I'm ok with that.

I like that Elvis replica I seen photos of the original and that BR bike captures the spirit. I would have considered that for mid $30's. I was looking a new 2009 H-D Deluxe Rossmeyer had loaded up all chrome like Indian has and true duals with performance upgrades for $27K figured the Chief was really much more rare and unique and that's why I went KM.
