darkrider
for the last couple years I've been using a verizon wireless modem to connect to the internet with my laptop. it cost $60 a month, so I cancelled it and figured I'd just unlock and jailbreak my iphone and download the pda app so I can tether it to my laptop since I'm paying for the service through my phone plan anyway. it seems to work great, except there are a couple web pages it tries to pull up for ahwile before it gives up. my hotmail log-in page is one of them, and so is the photobucket log-in page. If I plugged in my verizon wireless modem, it would pull it right up, no problem, kinda weird. anybody know why that is? I've cleared out my cookies and all that crap several times tia
BAL
Possible shockwave-flash issues? Which iPhone, 3G, 3GS, 4? Which versions of... redsn0w PwnageTool or iH8sn0w Sn0wbreeze... Lots of variables....
darkrider
i have a 3GS, but I just figured it out. the free trial pdanet version restricts secure log-in pages. I went to upgrade but had to remove the current version from my laptop. and the new version was for the android. so I had to cancel the install, and now I have to connect to a wifi or LAN so I can get it reloaded. thanks for reply, bal
XV62
Sounds to me like that is the same function as using an air card in one's laptop. There are certain files (size and configuration) that just won't transmit thru a cell tower. I'm no puter xpert, but our IT geek 'splains to me that way. Every time I start up a new project, before we get all the utilities to the job office, I have to use an air card for a while and some things won't open up till I get cable broadband or DSL.
darkrider
I'm pretty sure that's not the situation here. on fhe f&q of their site it specifically says what some of their restrictions are for the trial version. guess I'll find out for sure tonight

Your laptop's only connection to the 'net is through your Iphone. Your Iphone's connection is to a cell tower. I'm not sure, but I think it has something to do with bandwidth, which is limited by cellphones. If your laptop is not connected to a cable or telephone land line it's to a cell tower. darkrider
all I know is that for the last 3 and half years, I've been using this little USB modem that plugs into my laptop, and I've been getting superfast Internet usage on any website I go to. I don't download movies, or do any kind of online gaming or anything like that. I definetly don't ever use anywhere near my 5gig plan. I canceled the service with verizon, and started tethering my iPhone connection with a USB to my laptop, and it's been working just as fast for anything I do on the Internet. The only 2 sites that would give me trouble where my hotmail account and my photobucket account. they would load, but real slow. now they won't load at all. the pdanet program I'm using for the tethering service says that most secure login pages will no longer load after the free trial of pdanet expires after 14 days. it's been 14 days, and those two pages now won't load at all. if I had any kind of intelligence I would have read the fine print, and known ahead of time, lol

You were using an air card in your laptop INSTEAD of a cable or phone connection. You are still using the same type, just thru your Iphone connection. The issue you are having probably has something to do with the processor size of the Iphone compared to the laptop. Is your laptop a Mac or PC? darkrider
lol! are you messin wit me? not that I don't deserve it just a hp laptop. and the problem is apparently a simple fix of buying the software now that the trial period is over. No reason to be messin' with ya. Just trying to understand and give input from my experiences dealing with what sounded like similar conditions. Air card connections to a laptop, in my experiences, can take days to download certain types and size of files. These same files will download in seconds over a broadboand connection. I thought you had said you disconnected a Verizon land line, my mistake. I understand now that what you were doing was paying for two of the same connections, now just one.
