2blackbelts
I'm sure there are other people who have more knowledge than I do about this subject, so I apologize if this has been thrashed over before. I spoke to my friend who owns a lare Victory dealership. He met with the bigwigs and said the Powerplus is going to be eliminated and replaced with some form of Vic motor. They said the PP is too slow, too expensive to build, and based on outdated technology. He didn't know if they were going to alter the engine for cosmetics or not. They also said they wanted t lower the price, and open the bikes up to major Victory dealerships. the bike will be priced only slightly above the higher priced Vics, more in line with HD. 2 bb
Scottdog
VERY COOL! Now we will be the lucky ones to have gotten our hands on them....
hasbin
I doubt it will happen soon, But it will happen.... And I think it is a good thing, They might be able to make a new mill that resembles a PP, But it will run like & be as reliable as a Vic JMHO
SlvrStrk
Although a bit quirky to have an engine called a 'bottlecap' at least it was distinguished looking and had personality. It would be nice to have a stroneger, efficient engine with the cosmetics of our current looking engine, but whatever it is - make it reliable and the word will spread! Dr. Mark
Yeah, we figured that, but the PP105 will be around for at least another three years, from what they were saying. They told us that there are gonna be new powerplants, but it won't be a Victory engine, they'll be proprietary to Indian. What's gonna be interesting is what kind of powerplant they come up with. Again, from what they said, all options are on the table right now. Hey Gary!...surprised you didn't make it down to IRIP for Saturday at least. Been busy, I'm guessing? Scalper38
Frankly, my PP100 is DAMN STRONG and powerful. It'll go 100+ and has tons of torque. You guys ride an 800 pound bike, how much freakin' power do you need/want? Get a bike with a 6 or 8 cylinder if you think you need that much power. I like the PP100 and 105 and will be happy to keep mine.

ejburroughs
I have to agree, my PP100 has more power than most any Harley, I rode from VA to MO and back with nary a miss (except a worn out rear tire ). Now granted my mill has been Malfa'ed but just the same, Gilroy could have done the same thing Malfa did at the factory if they had not been such retards and allowed QC to slip in to the bowels of their check books! Just the same I will keep my Gilroy, now I am not saying that I won't be buying a "Polish" Indian in the future but for the time being, I am quite happy thankyou very much

2blackbelts
I actually was going to be there on Thursday. I stopped by the new shop to inspect some physical therapy equipment that was supposed to ship, and ended up staying 3 days trying to get it out. I was also told the bottlecap was going much sooner than later, as Polaris didn't want to invest in a powerplant they were going to get rid of anyway. What do I know, I have to ride a Harley right now. I'll definately be there next year. 2bb dr. g

It is Baloon
If the Bottle Cap is eliminated, they might stand to lose a large market share of customers [around the world] who still love the look, sound, and vibe of a nostalgic push-rod motor. That could make this guy very happy indeed . me ride um Centennial cheers

Doing what Joe did to your motor at the factory would neither be cost affective nor in compliance with EPA regs.

Brock
isnt bottlecap going away very soon a bit contradictory to what was implied at IRIP by Polaris? according to what was told people straight from horses mouth--- -pricing wont change much...as they think it is priced about right give or take a couple thousand -indian chief will remain the flagship traditional bike with valenced fenders, etc -no immediate changes to bike as it was known from KM...other than some further refinements -it would NOT have a victory motor...everything will be designed specifically for Indian...no sharing of major components with Victory Too slow....? Put a properly built PP motor in a 300 pound sport bike or a 500 pound lightweight cruiser and tell me how it is any slower than anything offered by victory? How much over 100mph do you need to go or 140mph for that matter with PP105? LOL Sounds too far off from what I read was conveyed at IRIP....reminds me of the bullshit coming out of Minn-StPaul dealership last year that was more conjecture and personal opinion... That could make this guy very happy indeed . me ride um Centennial cheers Yes he is Happy that YOU ride a Motorcycle with a EVO (HD copy) motor with a Bottom twin shock frame ( HD Softail design,, I bet he even likes the Indian Style fenders on his design,,, ps: LMAO Edited May 25, 2011 by Chiefin
Last Resort
a Bottom twin shock frame ( HD Softail design,,) Bill Davis designed and patented the "Softail" in the 1970's. He later sold the rights to the design to Harley. AMF 1969-1981 Are the AMF years. During those years.... AMF designed the 5 speed transmissions. AMF designed the rubbermount touring chassis that is the father of all the touring HD's today. AMF developed the FXR. AMF came out with the 80" Shovelhead engine. AMF started the EVO design. AMF developed the secondary belt drive, still in use today. AMF designed the "tour glide" fairing which todays Roadglides came from. AMF improved the hand controls. AMF did the Cafe Racers of 76-77 AMF introduced the "FX" series So many other developments were accomplished during the AMF years as well. AMF is the reason Harley is still in business today and many of their contributions still influence HD design today.

Yep,, Harley improved on the Bill Davis design...and has been using it for almost 40 years.. and AMF was the best thing that could happen to Harley Davidson at the time,, Like Polaris,, they took over entityng enity and spent a ton of money keeping it alivcompany companey would have done the same for Indian in the 50s they too would have been in production for over 100 years too
