OK, brothers and sisters, a moment of your time, if you please.

The past two days have seen...um...considerable upheaval, if you will, in the little orbit that is the world of Indian motorcycle.

Polaris' purchase of Indian has provoked a considerable amount of discussion, consternation, controversy, and even hate and discontent on the board, to the point of attacking one another, and even attacking the newbies, like rabid weasels.

OK, well, more rabid than usual.

The pro-KM and anti-KM factions have been out in force, both proclaiming that the sale is vindication for their point of view. (fact is, they probably are both right, to some degree.)

The civility level around here has dropped over the past year or two to the point that many good folks just don't come 'round no more, and that's sad.

When was the last time you saw Pops post? Pappy? Homer? MG? IL? Danny? The list goes on and on.

They all spiced things up around here, and always had something useful or funny or thought provoking to add.

Maybe you don't miss them, but I do.

And we sure ain't doing much to endear ourselves to the new Victory peeps signing on the board. Yeah, maybe a couple of them have made somewhat insensitive comments, but think back to when you were a noob and said stupid shit. Hell, I been here for 9 years and I still say stoopid shit...frequently. Hourly, at times. :Rulz[1]:

Whether you look at them positively or negatively, the KM days are over. The Polaris days are here. The debate about how things were done at Kings Mountain now will go on forever, likely, and will undoubtedly be chewed over ad infinitum at IRIP this year, next year and so on.

All I am saying, is that we need to try to inject a little civility in the discussions. We don't talk to one another like this in person....unless we are joking.

Let me give you an example...I don't think stu will mind. If you read the board, you'd think stu and I fucking hate each other, but in fact, when my nephew died, stu sent me an extremely nice note, and that was very much appreciated. We still fight like cats and dogs, but we'd still sit down for a beer together...and have in the past.

Cut the newbies and Victory folks a little slack. We don't want them thinking we are all flaming dickheads right off the bat.

(It should take them at least a month to figure that out on their own.)

Peace, out. :Cheers[1]:

-Dr. Mark

I live and work 15 miles away from Medina, MN - home of Polaris corporate offices and Victory bikes. I see more of those Victory bikes buzzing up and down highway 55 as they are going to work and back home again. For the most part they all wear helmets and they drive in all kinds of weather except snow. They love their bikes just like we love ours. The guys I have met in person give way more attention and respect to my Indian bikes - Gilroy or KM than any Harley guy ever has.

Victory makes a damn nice, reliable, technically advanced batch of motorcycles. Granted the Vision has that fugly factor but those far out designs are what Cory and Arlyn Ness are all about. Those same Ness guys just might be the ones that come up with some really cool fairing and hard bag designs for the dresser tourng Indian so many of us want.

I said it before and I'll say it again, welcome to this forum Polaris! See ya Thursday nites at the Medina Ballroom soon.

I too find myself with headquarters now up the road not across the country, but it would not matter. I gave up several bikes to go all in on Indian and would not change the decision. Several guys who bought Indians then gave them up are now seriously deciding to re-buy. I have found most on the forum to be inviting and I hope to meet some of you in person soon. What I want most from "Indian Motors Polaris" is to get the Scout and Indian Four back on the road and into my garage. When I want to add things to the bike I want it available, I do not care who provides it. I think the new company can do this. I hope we all can enjoy the ride. Thx Doc for your words B)

I have to echo Dr. Marks comments and lets be a hospitable to the new members as they are coming over here out of curiosity. Now with that said, this is an INDIAN forum and if I had a vote I'd prefer to keep it that way. If I want to discuss Victory I'd go to the appropriate forum of like minds. And my brother has the Vision and it's the most ergonomically comfortable bike I have ever ridden. Good bikes with a strong following just like Indian.

Personally I don't think the Vic crowd is coming over here due to the recent announcement of the acquistion of Indian. I think they got wind of the "Babes and Indians" thread. B)

it's a bike, we're people who like to ride them, it should be that simple, not sure why it's not :Beer-Chug[1]:

Havin your knees in the breeze is one of the things we all have in common, the other is a passion for what we ride, safe thing to do would be to lay back with a cold brew and watch for a couple months to let the dust settle. :Beer-Chug[1]:

Agreed- with the caveat that many of our older respected members also own the Polaris bikes ( Uplander, Potter et al.)
