Why Aren't Side Cars More Popular?

Recommended Posts

The only thing I can think of better than a babe on a bike with me is another one sittin beside me too, lol!

but with the gas prices and all. and plus thats one more person you can take on a ride, or more places to put stuff. It just seems to me like you'd see a whole lot more of them. I might see one a year on the roads where I'm at.

I've honestly debated haveing one built for my darkhorse cause it seems like theres always 2 that want to ride with me and I only have the one bike.

I think a guy should have two bikes.

One with a side-hack, and one without.

Well, maybe three bikes. The two above, and a bar-hopper. :Beer-Chug[1]:

And a classic

And a special construction

Fuck it. However many will fit in the garage is how many a guy should have.

Hard to do "wrap-arounds" from a sidecar, but, then again, there could be other things done by a sidecar passenger

I think 4 is a better number,but 5 would be nice.

Dogs luv'em but dogs don't have the cash.

I know my dog would have one if he won the Lotto one day.

Why don't we see more sidecars?

Because one or worse two people being killed in a moto sickle crash is a tragedy - but 3 being killed is just plain damn careless & outright stupidity.

Where you going to find enough numb nuts with low enough IQ to get into the 3 wheeled coffin in the first place?

Ohh - I forgot - this is USA we are speaking about - likely there will be plenty and most of them will have served at some time! (thus proving they have to be told what to do and when to do it because they don't have the ability too think for themselves):P

Cheers!

I have pondered about this subject and having a side car would be a nice option for the Indian Chief. Where would one purchase a side car?

I think the expense is a deterrent, also, it totally changes the handling of the bike, almost to that of a trike, plus it introduces 'issues'. Bike is wider, hence less maneuverable, you now need a reverse gear, tire wear becomes uneven ( I think )... it's just not for everyone.

I never gave much thought to a side car but if this fucking idiot is against them they can't be all bad may have to rethink my view on them.

Does anyone have a quick detach sidecar that we can put this Fucktard in, give him a ride, and then pull the detach pins on a hard left corner with a steep, rocky cliff to the right??!! I will help bury the body, and I am guessing all of us would pitch in for a new side car!!

I too, like side car rigs, specifically the URAL GEAR-UP. 2WD and reverse, no speed demon by any means, but it has been said that these rigs provide more smiles per mile than any other bike. You will find that Ural has a huge following world wide as well.

Ural Motorcycles

Ural riders are as passionate about their rigs are we are about ours.

Soviet Steeds

Russian Iron MC

Adventure Rider / Hacks

In addition, a hack is a great option for disabled riders; I guess a trike would be too, but I hate the look of trikes.

I see a Ural Gear Up in my future.

there's one around here that has the controls in the sidecar. it's been along time since I seen it, but was a trip watching a motorcycle go down the road with no rider, lol!

I just took delivery of a new Champion Legend sidecar.

Just a shade past $9100 delivered.

I suspect that a few more dollars will be spent along the way on other doodads and thing-a-ma-jigs that I absolutely must have.

What the heck----I’m here only once---might as well enjoy it.

I evaluated sidecars from all manufacturers and the Champion Legend was my choice.

In my opinion, its shape has a very smooth appearance.

The paint finish and quality of components are excellent.

And the passenger ingress is neither daunting nor inconvenient.

My second favorite is the 400 Series Trans-Moto out of Canada.

As with any bike project, several of the stock components on the bike must be removed before and reinstalled after the sidecar components have been installed.

The installation is without any major undertaking and is very comprehensible.

Installation of the reverse gear unit is neither intimidating nor difficult.

Personal assembly and installation time are the only overhead.

I anticipate that my left knee will soon be unable to support my two wheeled bike---hence my decision for a sidecar.

As an added bonus for me, a sidecar is uncommon and the rig has a very classical look---some things that all bikers strive for---achieving individuality.

Now, I just need to remember not to push left to turn left and not to push right to turn right while riding.

If purchasing a sidecar, I recommend getting the steering damper to prevent the slow speed wobble and the brake for additional safety and control.
