mjdart
As some know Chief 31 hails from Wichita Kansas after being assembled in North Carolina. Well, he went back home recently to help with some legislation he feels strongly about, being stuck at a red light and overheating. Kansas House Approves Bill Allowing Motorcycles to Run Red Lights Thursday, February 24, 2011 Ever been itching to run a red light that just won't change? Kansas lawmakers think motorcycle riders should be able to do just that. The Kansas House on Tuesday approved a bill that would allow bikers to run a red light if the signal "fails" to turn green after a "reasonable period of time." The proposal leaves the discretion in the hands of the motorcyclist, but is aimed at ensuring riders don't get trapped in perpetuity at intersections because of signals that either malfunction or don't detect the motorcycles. Motorcycle riders testified this month that their bikes were often not big or heavy enough to trigger the sensors that cause red lights to switch. For fear that riders would have to choose between being stuck on the Kansas tundra or running a light and risking a ticket, they urged the legislature to approve the so-called "Dead Red" bill giving them a free pass. The riders testifying in support of the bill belonged to a group known as ABATE, or A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments. "Cars and trucks have no problem with it, but motorcycles have always been an issue," Crawford County Sheriff's Deputy Bob Peters said, according to Fox 14. "You may be on a section or roadway where you may wait for five minutes and there may not be other traffic along to trigger the sensor." Though Peters supported the bill, it was opposed by Kansas police organizations that want their officers, not motorcycle riders, to have the discretion. One Republican lawmaker unsuccessfully tried to strip the red-light provision, saying, "I see no skeletal remains of motorcyclists sitting at red lights that never change," according to The Wichita Eagle. written by FoxNews

No law here like that.. Sometimes we get stuck at the trafic lights, won't let it cycle around no more than once, then we discreetly run em, happens alot.. Think there's some kinda electronic device you can buy, and put on your bike that trips the senser.. Dave

I am more of a "spirit" of the law guy, as opposed to a "letter" of the law guy. Besides, if laws didn't get broken "occasionally" some might people may go out of business. What was the statement by Shakespeare again???

There are some teeny cardlike devices you can attach to the fork triple tree or gas tank bottoms that trigger those timed lights to go greeen purdy quick. AlbertaIndianChief
Reminds me of Branson last May .... Me , Eraserhead, Jimbo, Mick, Blue Diesel, Joe ( Horndawg) went out to Dinner .....we came to a stop sign , Jim stopped and took off ...we all followed, except for Joe ..he saw the cop and beat it through a parking lot. Next thing we knew the Cherries came on.... and another cop's car joined him .... cop said we went through that stop sign like a freighttrain, good thing he didn't ask too many questions before sending us on our way , cause I had no wallet and Mick had no registration papers. could of been in PooPoo but were able to laugh at it later.. injun46
I heard that a good magnet attached to the bottom of the bike will help trigger the lights. Don't know if this is true or not.
