Brock
damn, nothing like a speedy trial and sentencing...this has been over 2 years I think maybe over 3 years going on 4. Bad deal but he got off easy even though it has taken this long to get to this point. Sounds like he has changed a bit because of the incident so I hope when he gets out he can turn it into a positive for himself and the community. I always liked his bikes and he seemed like decent enough fella the couple times I met him here in Charleston. Just a horrific decision and mistake that he will have to live with forever. Micmac
You wanna dance, ya got's ta pay the fiddler. Nobody goes out and parties, drives home and plans on killing someone. But it happens all the time. Then we get to read in the paper about their remorse for doing so. "I didn't mean it" I ain't buying it. Only thing their sorry for is they be going to the crowbar hotel. The unfortunate thing in most of these cases, the perp walks away. Of course Billy's sorry, he's off to Raeford, Florida's version od hell. Hey, I have made my share of mistakes in my life, don't get me wrong. Even crossed the line on occasion, but ya takes yer lumps and move on. "If spared prison time,he'll talk to youth about drinking and driving", let's see if he talks to youth about drunk driving when he get's out, then I'll beliieve he is a changed man. My money is on he'll be back doing the same ol same ol. I hope I'm wrong. Oh yeah, Billy's gonna have a rough time in the greybar.

maninbox
He got what he deserved. I figured he was in jail long ago. Foolishly naive of me I guess. They are all real sorry after the fact. It is a good thing that he takes responsibility for his actions. Few do. Like Micmac said, lets see what he does after the debt is paid. Thats the only thing that will make a difference now. secinv
It is very sad for anyone to go through, but I was hoping he would not have to spend any time in prison. Prison sentencing is not always a good corrective tool, many times it produces an opposite affect by making it worse.
Satdiver
Seems people are only remorseful when they get caught. I would bet if he did not kill somebody due to his DUI, he would still be drinking and driving and not feel bad about it at all.
Brock
I dont think anyone expected him to NOT GO TO JAIL...I just expected it sooner rather than taking this long. Not like it was a complicated case...he was shit faced drunk, speeding, passed on double yellow line, hit guy head on...killed him. I do think there is remorse for killing that man and the harm it has caused....I think the gravity of what he has done has set in the past few years....and will become even more real the next 6 years unless he gets early release. I hope he stays at least a 90% of his sentence...but any more it is like 10%...read other day of guy here that got out from domestic violence...on Friday...shot mother in law on saturday....hid in attic under insulation and shot his ex wife when she came back from family members. Fucker should have been in jail still.... Everyone ride safe and ride defensive...

Micmac
Sorry, one drunk driving, ok get treatment if you don't hurt anyone,2nd time go to jail, do not pass go and do some "high quality" prison time. We tried it your way, you didn't learn a thing, bye bye. Billy had multiple DWI's. What he will learn is prison sucks and if he are really pure of heart, he will contemplate the reasons that brought you there, and change your ways. There are programs inside he can take advantage of and come out a changed man, many do. If you are of a criminal mind, you will hone your skills there. If you've ever spent any time on a motorcycle have dealt with a drunk crossing the line coming towards you, or riding up on you ass, you wouldn't have to think twice about how dangerous the situation might be, you would know. Personally, I have buried too many people as the result of murderers on 4 wheels. Billy more than people who ride around on 4 wheels knew this, I do not feel sorry for him one iota. This liberal mindset towards crime will be the ruin of America.
secinv
I just hope that this prison sentence will not totally destroy his life. I know he killed someone, but not intentional and he will have to live with that for the rest of his life. There is nothing he could do to bring to bring back the life of the person he killed, prison or no prison. Anyway, he is in prison and maybe he will get paroled way before his sentence is completed and try to rebuild his life and business in building custom motorcycles. I'm mean really, his bike is sorry too!
Doc Loco
Drunk driving gets you the firing squad on first offense in many Islamic jurisdictions... Back in the day drunks who drove here in the states would go to jail only if convicted of manslaughter or great property damage. It took MADD and other groups pressure to change the enforcement & laws to what we have now. There is a debt to be paid society in force now. Quite a few 3 time losers are now in jail for life due to no selfdiscipline with the hooch. If you are going to indulge in booze & drugs stay home and out of trouble. Billy Lane will pay his debt, due his time, probably get sued for wrongful death and stay sober for the duration of his incarceration. His choice of attitude and lifestyle upon release remains to be seen. Like many celebs, he needed a chauffer or designated driver but his physically intoxicated ego got in the way of the correct decision. Now he must pay. Doc Loco
clearly you've never had pruno..... No toilet squeeszins for me, thank you! I have made wine, brother in law makes good beer & ales...never owned a still but my close cousin's Italian Gramps made Grappa & Brandy in a copper set up that turned out some nice product. Institutional incarceration is not one of my goals in life. Some people grow to love it though, I guess.

secinv
I spent one year as a state correctional officer in Mass, observed many bad things happen to inmates. I am very far from being a liberal, but not totally sure that state prison is the best resolution to fit the crime committed. It is a rather complex discussion and subject, but feel everyone who has commented has made good and valid points. In my younger years have driven drunk, just lucky that I was not caught, had an accident or hurt anyone. I was though very careful, if I had drank a little too much and kept the speed slow and tried to focus on getting home without incident. I am sure there are many of us who had done the same. Since reaching 40, I seldom drink and definitely nothing over two beers, if driving. I never drink while on my Indian Motorcycle. Well, Billy is off to prison and by now the reality and shock of horror has set in. I guess for his sake, I hope he stays positive, gets involved in the programs, improves on his education and most importantly, keeps out of trouble within the population. badndn
Ok...I confess. I have driven home after having way too much to drink. Took chances and jeopardized innocent people's lives. I aint gonna sit here and pretend to be a Saint. Billy got what he deserved. He made bad decisions. Nearly every accident out there is from a bad decision. Where is the outcry for driving while on pain killers, sleepy, texting, talking on telephone, driving a shitty car, being a bad driver or simply not paying attention. The result is the same. Micmac
Like I said in my original post, guilty. I don't think I'm a Saint. Thank God I never hurt anyone. I am not unsympathetic to Billy's plight other than he had a previous charge. He rides bikes, he knew better. We all know better. Don't whine when you know you've done wrong, take your punishment like a man. He rolled the dice and they came up snake-eyes, lost it all. Addiction is an asskicker.
