TallRider
My Dad's birthday is tomorrow - he'll be 89 on Christmas Eve and is in great health, sharp as a tack, and I look up to him more than anyone else I know. I still can't convince either him or my Mom to take a ride on the Chief with me - but I chalk that up to my Mom's brother and his wild HD days scaring the daylights out of her. My folks have been married since '47 and live in the same small town that they grew up in, Excelsior, MN in the same house that they bought in '53 (I'm the black sheep of the family who is the only one that moved away). They've outlived most of their contemporaries and they look like they'll be around for some time to come. For those of you who have lost a parent, I can't begin to imagine what that will be like. My Dad and I have talked about that eventuality, and when the time comes I know he'll be at peace with it. For me - not so much. So for you Dad - congratulations, Merry Christmas, and happy birthday! TR Happy birthday to your Dad, Bob. You're lucky to still have him around. My Dad died at 76 when I was 38. I would sure have liked a few more years with him. Like Mark Twain said, I was always amazed at how much smarter the old man got as he got older!
