What Do You Jack With?

Recommended Posts

i'm wanting a nice jack that can lift the whole bike at the same time. be nice if it didn't take up to much space in the garage. i'm seeing some ones online like the one similiar to the one harbor freight sells, and i'm thinking that would be ideal, except i prefer not to buy china made metal when its supporting my $28,000 chief.

i've been outta the loop for quite a long time, and, i've never even owned a motorcycle (specific) jack. I've budgeted up to $400 for one, so i figure i should be able to get something to suit my needs. tell me what you got, or wish you got,... pics? links?

I have the harbor freight jack you're talking about... it is very nice.... very stable and lifts the bike up to somewhere around 30 inches.... but.. it's chinese.... don't know what else to say... if you got 400 bucks for a jack.. buy American.... hell ya just paid 28K for a bike.... what's 400 more.... right...

Dont care much for the Sears. I have a Goodyear Racing that is a little better I think, but its no longer available at Sams.

This looks good:

OTC-- Amazon Probably made in China also. Not sure its worth twice the price of a Sears.

Here is a good lookin USA made jack--- $439.00 shipped.

J&S Jacks USA

These USA jacks look good too- --- $400.00 plus shipping

Pitbull Jacks -- TENN

This is a little fancier--- and cheaper-- doesnt say USA-- might be the best value-

no doubt about it, its pretty hard to find anything thats not being made over in asia. i have a friend that nearly lost his life because of a set of very poor quality cheap china jack stands, and the load on them was not even a third of what their rated for. most of the metal (and welds)i personally see coming from china is equal to lawn furniture pot metal. but that may not be everybodys experiance, of course.

put up a set of china jack stands next to a set of snap on jack stands of the same weight class, and i'm gonna feel way more comfortable with the much more expensive snap-on stands, everytime.

just my opinion :)

You are absolutely correct in the quality of anything Snap-On, but the price is disproportionate to the increased quality, imho..... I have the harbor freight chinese jack, scored it off craigslist for $40.00 almost brand new. I added some spacers to take up the slop in some of the pivot points and am very happy with it. It lifts my Chief with out a problem and when the locks are engaged everything is in compression so failure is far less likely (notice I did not say impossible :) ). If money were not an option I would rather have a lift table than a jack, but that is just my opinion...good luck, by the way, have heard nothing but good things about the pit bull jacks, just too much money for a simple fireman :Beer-Chug[1]: :Beer-Chug[1]:

Lol don't want a China jack for $89 to raise up that chief well don't be looking at some of the parts and pieces on that chief they may be from China or Taiwan.

The harbor freight jack I have is 200 bucks.... it isn't like the sears jack but more like the one littleman built... much more stable than any of the sears or others. also raises the bike to close to 30 inches... not 16... you may not care about that... yet.... but 16 inches ain't that high... you lose 4 getting to the frame... so you raise the bike at most a foot... but you da one buying so if ya don't want chinese go with one a the others...

but here's a link to mine.. but mine is red.... http://www.harborfreight.com/high-position-motorcycle-lift-99887.html

can't disagree with you at all :Beer-Chug[1]:

and not to make this a anti-asia thread, even though i'm the dork bringing it up, lmao! but also to mention,... i remember going to the local harbor freight store and bought a auto transmission jack that bolts up to my floor jack... that was a exact knock off of my buddy's snap-on jack. i think i paid only $45 for it and was laughing to him about how much i saved. he just smiled and said "let me know how it works for you". sure enough... first time i used it,... i had to add some spacers to the pins and bend some things on it to take out the slop,... and when i went to use the jackscrews to pivot... it was a whole differant ball game compared to how easy and nice using the snap-on one was. but nevertheless... i still have it and use it, lol.

i haven't looked at all the links posted here yet. but here is the one i had been looking at http://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-1500-Lift-Capacity-Motorcycle/dp/B0036UM18U i'm only guessing, but just like so much of the stuff that has been ripped off and copied by the chinease,... the harbor freight model that appears to be the same one, is most likely a direct copy of it. therefore, another words... some american worker spent all the time, money and skill developing it and making a quality part, only to have some scum bag send it over there so china can copy it and sell it for a third of the price :(

lol! but i wouldn't be surprised if the acdelco one isn't being manufactured over there now. i is probably beating a dead horse :banghead:

thanks for input so far :Cheers[1]: !

Direct-lift "table" & an early (all steel) Sears frame lift. I LOVE the table, But it does take up more room. :Beer-Chug[1]:

I double my lift table for a werk bench when not in use....but,it's also a good place ta keep a scoot............. :Beer-Chug[1]:
