Feeding The Children Of The Working Poor

Recommended Posts

The White House Restaurant

Anyone in the area should eat here to help support a great guy and business.

Or you can also donate money or pasta to help him feed the kids.

That's really nice...forgive me for noticing but 1 or 2 of them don't look too close to starvation! :Spanishinq:

That's the first thing I noticed...as a matter of fact, noe of them look like they've gone too long without eating.

That's an understandable reaction Tony, but an unfortunate one. A lot of kids in these times are growing up undernourished, but overweight. You'll notice that the lead-in was the guy's mother noticing a kid having potato chips for dinner. It's not that these kids aren't getting food, it's that they're not getting nutritious food. Too many kids from all points on the economic continuum, are living on sodium, trans fats and corn sugar. Makes you fat, but malnourished at the same time.

Evidently some of you ivory tower livin' fukkers ain't ever been broke or hungry or wonderin' from where your kids next meal was comin'.

Don't bad mouth the recipients unless you've been there. Guaran-fukkin-tee ya, you wouldn't be if ya had been.

Brian's right too. Being married to a lifelong diabetic who happens to be a Registered Dietitian, I hear of those problems daily, that is, how to better feed the children of this country.

Yeah...you're right about that. There is a lot of junk that people shove into their mouths that passes for food these days. I'm not sure that pasta is much better as far as nutritional value goes, but hey...it is better than potato chips and soda.

Donations to your local food pantry is a great thing to do. It's not difficult either. We have a grocery store in town that has bags of food packaged and ready to go. All you have to do is buy it, and it goes right to the food pantry. Pretty cool.

I agree with that Robin. I guess my first reaction didn't have much thought put behind it, and if anyone is offended by that, I apologize... and to further that, I guess I forgot about the first few months when I was on my own for the first time. Going without eating for a day is pretty miserable;. two days, and you get downright desparate. I've been there as I'm sure some of you have.

Fortunately I had but one mouth to feed, and didn't have to worry about children then.

Don't take it too personal, Tony. I used to be 'bout as hardassed as a lot of these guys on here. The years and a good woman have softened me up somewhat. That and being broke two or three times. Changes a fella's perspective some.

It's a good thing to be called out when I put my foot in my mouth.

Thanks Robin and Brian.

Even though I am a hard assed right wing Republican, I don't hold kids accountable for their lazy-assed welfare as a lifestyle good for nutin parents. I did however cease all Trick-or-Treat Operations when two kids in a row I had never seen came to the house with two baqs asking for candy for their non-present "cousins", even though Deryl restarted said operations and let me have it!

Yes Robin, I've lived through some really rough spots in my life as well, but I always worked (except since St. Paddy's day this year, when I retired). I give to the food bank, my American Legion Post sells hot dogs all year and I help, to feed poor kids who have no parents, and take really good care of a home for challenged kids at Christmas where none of em want for anything and at Christmas, even though I ain't what the churchgoer's would call a good Christian, I put a sizeable chunk in a Sally Ann's kettle, was a time in my life they gave me the only Christmas present I got, I don't forget that. The fucking Salvation Army will help ANYBODY, thats why I support them. Man, women, kid, black, white, Latino, Indian. Most other charities have strings attached.Thing is, it is good to do something for someone, even for us ol hard asses.

I have no doubts of any of that, Pete.

Your second half of the first sentence was my key point. It ain't the kids fault. Even if the kids are scamming, it's because they weren't taught any better.

I also agree about worthless good for nuttin' parents. On the other hand, I personally know hard working, caring parents that really struggle to provide, but still manage. IMHO, they are more deserving of help than the worthless ones.

Tony:

No apologies necessary - anyone who knows you knows you got a good heart. And ya know how we know? Because of the woman you're married to. Just like Pete, and Robin, and a lot of the rest of us worthless sacks 'o shit. If we're judged by the male company we keep, we're in sad shape. But if we're judged by the women we're married to, we come out smelling like roses.

Thanks Bro.

Yeah...we all married UP that's for sure.
