Indian Day 2010

All in all not a bad day. However, all the Gilroy and Kings Mountain Indians got fucked yet again!

I dare say, there were as many or more of us then there were vintage Indians at this showing, yet we were

given no quarter! WTF!!!!

Can you tell I'm pissed?

This really needs to change, and Micmac said he spoke with the director immediately about this.

We as a community need to send e-mails or make phone calls to make this happen!

The director's name is Guy McLain

E-mail address is gmclain@springfieldmuseums.org

Phone is 413.263.6800, ext 300

Let him know what you think but, and I need to heed my own advice, be civil about it.

If only the vintage owners are allowed to represent, this will become stagnent quickly, and die a painfull death.

Funniest part about not being with the vintage Indians or given preferential and seperate parking from the rest of the riff-raff, is that Wagner Motorsports was in with the vintage bikes hawking a new Chief and selling goodies. Go figure!

For us Indian owners, this is our ancestrial home, and if we show up to pay respects, honor our brands forefathers, and represent Indian Motorcycle, then we should be given our due dilligence.

Here is a link to my photobucket slideshow, enjoy!

Last year they gave us parking on the grounds, just past the vintage bikes and made the others go to the parking lot. I wonder why the change?

I got there kinda early. They told dme to park with all the jap shit and Harlees. I voiced my opinion, they guys went and got the director who spoke to me directly. He was cordial, and said only vintage Indians were allowed in the venue. I asked him why a 70's Italian mini bike was in the venue, we had American bikes. I said in about an hour there will be more Gilroy Indians here, you need to come count them. To his credit, I saw him doing so. He gave me business cards, one of which I gave to Stephan, and he posted the particulars. He asked me to have US tell him how to do it better. Please be nice when you send the guy comments. If we are going to bridge the gap with the hardcore Springfield Indian guys, let it begin here where it all started. If we become negative, it will drive another nail into the coffin. We as an Indian community are fractured enough as it is, no need to sow more seeds. Stephan is right, it felt fucked up to be turned away and parked with the other bikes. I also will say this, many of the older guys were walking across the street and checking our shit out and liking it I might add. Like Louie, I got to meet some folks I had never met like Louie, Potato Potato, Gary 2 Wheels, Potter was there, Scott Dawg, Kim & Jimbo, Hookah, Ron & Renee and I know I've missed a-plenty. It was like a mini-Branson.

On the other hand, on Saturday I attended the Pioneer Vally Indian Day in Chester, Mass. Upon arrival, a big sign greeted me that said "Welcome ALL Indians", and if you were on an Indian, the 5.00 gate fee was waived. I will be attending these events every year now. To me, the Chester event was better although not as well attended.I would encourage y'all to check these events out, you will not be sorry!

That would be the first thing I mentioned to him in a letter. Then also note that other events all over the US have dropped the attitude of Springfield v. new Indians. Let him know that ALL indians have always been welcome in the IIRA, at IRIP, the Barn, the SoCal Dice Run and a host of other events. It's not as if HD asks the AMF bikes to be parked around the corner.

Robert,I think he was taking his cue from elsewhere, i.e. the 1901-1953 period crew. Once they saw the number of our bikes parked with the unwashed masses, they took note. Like Stephan said, this is our heritage too. Hell, many of us own both. They specifically aske for direction on how to do it better. Let's tell then.

It was a pleasure, and honor to finally meet Micmac and 335....and there were enough post Springfield Indians to establish the idea that our bikes actually DO exist,if not in the numbers of the 1901=1953 vintage. We'Garlics' were'nt fortunate(?) enough to have a company very long for support so mebb'e we are just 'bastards'..and,I can't remember all the folks in their 70's and 80's who stopped to tell me of their good times after being impressed by our late model INDIANS.'Kill 'em with kindness' the old saying goes...not hard for anyone who's met us.

Sorry I missed PS,SD and some you other IIRP members.I was treating my wife on her 61st,and drove over...her birthday is the 18th.I hate compromises!..
