Terlingua
I know I'm probably super slow on the news of this one, but I just found out the Roy ROgers Museum in Branson had closed. Use to enjoy stopping by there, makes me a little sad. Bunch of stuff going up for sale, including Trigger. Happy Trails
Blackhorse
I guess I'm really out of touch, I thought it was in Apple Valley California...
NC-Chief
I guess I'm really out of touch, I thought it was in Apple Valley California... Apple Valley is where I remember my grandparents taking us kids to see the Roy Rogers museum. We were too young to remember or understand why my grandparents even like Roy Rogers - we just like looking at the stuffed horse:Trigger and an old jeep. Makes sense that the museum moved to Branson and is now closing (i.e., probably not a lot of interest in a "singing cowboy" from back in the day). Joehoward
I saw on the news that the remains of Trigger are for sale... I guess he is stuffed and they are going to auction him off. no kidding!
Micmac
I'm sure someone from around there will take up a collection to get it going again.
zoom
Aimee insisted we go see the RR Museum on one of our trips to Branson. Glad we went. She loved it and we had a good time.

Last Resort
I guess I'm really out of touch, I thought it was in Apple Valley California... They fucked up big time when they moved it. Now it's gone for good, all that history lost ... well, no longer in one place Apple Valley was home to Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, whose museum was first established in Apple Valley (in 1967) before the museum was relocated to Victorville in 1976. Since 2003, the museum has been in Branson, Missouri. The move was made in hopes of reaching more fans; however, the museum closed for financial reasons on December 12, 2009. Apple Valley is the final resting place for both Roy and Dale. There are reminders of the Rogers family everywhere including roads and highways. Roy and Dale created St. Hillary's Episcopal Church, founded a home for boys, and took in some 20-40 children and raised them as their own. maninbox
I remember visiting the museum in Victorville a few years ago. I was sad that they moved it to Branson. Too bad that it is now gone. We still have the Gene Autry museum in the Los Angeles area. Real interesting place to visit if you are so inclined. Cowboys, Indians and weapons of the old west. We also have the Ronald Reagan center in Simi Valley, CA. Another great place to visit. Always something interesting to see there.

Last Resort
California does not collect a state inheritance tax. It was abolished June 9, 1982. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9cghyhsLKA
Blackhorse
Old joke: When Dale saw what Roy had the taxidermist do for Trigger- she is reported to have remarked that "she wanted to be stuffed and mounted, but not necessarily in that order..." Tahoe Chief
I think the horse sold today for 277,000 was a quick blip on the top of the hour radio news.
Hunters Friend
One of my best friends here on the Point was the light and sound guy for the show when it was open. To hear Kevin tell it, there were literally days the show would host 3 people, for the entire day. Just no interest in that kind of stuff anymore. I would venture to say that Steve McQueen's memorabilia would also be equally ignored if they brought it here. Not everything can be Graceland, Neverland, or the Playboy Mansion. Hunters Friend
Looks like it may be staying in Branson after all. http://www.ky3.com/news/local/TV-network-buys-stuffed-Trigger-from-closed-museum-in-Branson-MO-98516219.html RFD is literally right across the street from where the museum used to stand. danw44vh
My understanding is they had to move it after CA screwed the family over on the inheritance tax. There were rumors that the museum was having problems with taxes, but I met Dusty Rogers at an event in Apple Valley before they moved to Branson, and he said the bottom line was that they weren't getting enough visitors in Victorville, and they hoped that the touristy nature of Branson would generate more traffic.
