IndianTrue
Well the guy has a point that I have also thought of, why can't you throw it in neutral and coast to a stop? Then again the car operates with complete electronics so when it applies full throttle on its own it might not be able to go into neutral. Remember it is Toyota, so they might have set it up like their steering system which is complete electrical system on some models. That is beyond stupid, electronics can not be trusted (unless you are dealing with NASA) and that is only part time. You simply can't use a car that is not displaying the defect to do the test ride. Scottdog
All funnin' aside. Toyota produced a fucked up and dangerous product, has not been able to rectify it, tried to shrug it off and is taking it deep up the wazoo from the NTSA. Ricksza
HARLEYNOT has said what everyone else is thinking. Being that all these controls are electronic, they just send a request to the module. Could be that the program in the module is locked up ( just like our home computer ), and won't respond to any request. Needs to be rebooted and repair programming. I think that Toyota is working on a fix ( new program for module ), but needs to do something in the mean time to salvage their sales. So they apply band-aids ( floor mats, pedal repairs ). This way, they look like they're concerned about the consumer. No direct information about Toyota, just basic automotive computer knowledge. No surprises here. Most cage drivers can't even find the turn signals. The term "auto recall" always brings the 60s Ford "Inferno" to mind. Does anyone remember the exploding Pinto? Ford engineers knew of the problem before production, and when the proverbial material hit the fan the company offered misinformation, hid evidence and stalled recall efforts. All of this was done to avoid spending a buck or so per car.
