Joehoward
Does anyone know of a company that can take a piece of metal that I have and make mold of it for duplication? The item I have is made of steel so the duplicated parts will also need to made of steel. This is a piece of functional decorative art for our bikes that I want to manufacture. Anyone? Anyone? Joe little more detail Joe, the mold you want, what material does it need to be, and what is it's purpose? We have a pattern shop here in St. Louis, so we can cover a wide variety of materials and functions. Joe There are many companies out there. Joe maybe there is a shop in Indy that is looking for work. It's good to be able to eyeball the project from time to time. You may get a deal if you know someone - "government job" - wise. Single cavity, multiple cavity. Depending on the size of the casting. Powdered metal molding can be done with just an oven once you have the mold. Cast steel permanent mold or sand cast steel, then you will need a smelter to make molten metal and a furnace to preheat and dry the mold prior to pouring metal. I have designed, machined and bench polished many a mold or forging die and may have a 5-axis CNC machining center available. It has 80" Xaxis, 62" Yaxis, 40" Waxis, 30" Zaxis, and 360 degree Baxis. All axis are progamable. Size and location held to a few .0001s. If it is a fairly complex shape, we would need to digitize the object and mirror image the contours to cut the cavity. You can also get by with a wood pattern to hold the sand cast mold...this would be the cheapest and easiest type of mold to modify and experiment with your prototype. I don't have alotta experience with the wood patternmaking for sand casting... Maybe check with our Bro Patternman out of AZ.

Joe joe, if you have an existing part, it can be done very cost effectively by pouring an impression off it and then pouring the actual part/pattern in a urethane or reproduction plastic. with that you can have your castings made anywhere. jeff
