bonedaddy
no.....i think if everyone knew what was behind that, more would get pissed! Maybe I don't know what is behind this, because I like it. I work for a non-profit and it's amazing how many volunteers we recruit because of these days of service. A lot of them have never volunteered before and many stay on as regular volunteers. Organizations like mine wouldn't be able to do all the good we do, without volunteers. it's a good thing to support your community. My 2cents. Doc Loco
Anyone wish to volunteer for ACORN duty? If you have the time and are willing it can be a good experience - just be choosy who you offer to help. That's my take. But not because Barry's idea. If you don't have the time, then smoke a bowl and eat a dozen pooonchkies or sumthin'.

Eraserhead
I agree, it should be a day of remembrance, not service!
bonedaddy
I agree, it should be a day of remembrance, not service! What better way to honor those lost in such a tragic (and cowardly)event, then to help those currently living through severe crisis of their own. It's one thing to bitch and mope about what happened and another to honor and remember by doing something positive. You are right. We should not forget. but it doesn't do anyone any good to complain about a push to Americans to contribute to their communities. 911 brought Americans together, like we haven't been in a long time. We need to keep that going strong. Serving/volunteering is a way to strengthen America through pride and selflessness. It's not a ploy by the government to turn us all into socialists.
