Last Resort
Dr Pepper issues challenge to Guns N' Roses NEW YORK (Billboard) - Many have tried, but so far nobody has been able to pry the decade-in-the-works Guns N' Roses album "Chinese Democracy" from the hands of lone remaining original member Axl Rose. Now, Dr Pepper thinks it's up to the challenge. The soft drink company says it will give a free can of Dr Pepper to "everyone in America" (excluding ex-Guns members Slash and Buckethead) if "Chinese Democracy" arrives anytime during the calendar year 2008. Rose responded on his band's web site (http://www.gunsnroses.com) that the band was "surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper." But the offer did not prompt him to rose to the challenge. "Chinese Democracy" was most recently scheduled for release in March 2007, but promptly vanished from the schedule without a new date being set. Rose said at the time that all the recording had been completed, but there were some "scheduling difficulties." It will be the first album of fresh Guns N' Roses material since the 1991 sets "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II." Rose has reportedly burned through $13 million in recording expenses for "Chinese Democracy," and also burned his bridges with the bandmates who helped him turn Guns into one of the biggest rock groups in the world by the early 1990s. XV62
What's the big deal? I can afford my own can of Dr. Pepper, diet of course. I fail to see the humor.
maninbox
"Chinese Democracy", that's funny....
Last Resort
"Chinese Democracy", that's funny.... And that the album has had release dates bumped out since 1994 (and some worry about Indian LOL). It appears it will be released when there is a "Chinese Democracy". And that a corporation as large as Dr Pepper would do something like this ... that is funny. That an entertainment company would front Axhole Rose millions of dollars ... that's funny. indian T
AXHOLE...Now that name is appropriate. I always thought that the music was good, but the vocals sucked. then he became a diva and down the drain they went.
Maldev
I worked on a video for Geffen Records for that album in 1995. I think I may still have my copy of it.
Last Resort
Axhole was born a diva Not even smart enough to know he was the front-man but not the talent. But I have always thought he had a great rock n roll voice. The original line up was one of the all time great ROCK bands. The sum was many times greater then the total of it's parts. Maldev
I toured with them twice and was one of the guys getting them into the van in St. Louis and over the state line before they were arrested for inciting a riot during the concert. Their concerts were unbelieable and marred only by what the band brought upon themselves. In the end, I'm glad I have their music in my collection. It still holds up to this day as great rock n roll, imho. Edited March 27, 2008 by Maldev

Maldev
That arrest was the following year, as I recall. The riot was in 1991.

POWER STROKE
Who really cares anymore? Their time has long since come and gone. Metalheads the world over have moved on just like the other members of GNR. Mike, I think your right, if it ever gets released, it will be when China is a democrocy. Stargazer
Axel was and prob. still is an ass.......Back in the day they were a bar band in O.C. {Circa 1984} and on more than one occasion they were no shows or too loaded to go on.......I was amazed they kept it together enough to go as far as they did............... RCH
As far as I am concerned, they augered the band into the ground when they started recording Charlie Manson's shithole crap.
