Indian Chief Car Anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hey there again, everyone...

Was out browsing the internet (as usual)... and what did I stumble on, but what looks very much like some pretty Indian Chief-looking CARS... hehe...

Here's Clark Gable with his... in the 1930s

These are actually Duesenberg cars from the 1930s.

Perhaps later, like Harley Davidson and Ford already did with a truck (Harley Ford) Indian could come out with a car, like one of these!

As we all know, this style still appeals to a whole bunch of people. Only, we can't GET these cars anymore.

Let's hope some car manufacturer is listening somewhere!

Is this a Chief car or WHAT:

You do know that Indian did build a car once don't you?

Nope, never heard of it... Did it look anything like these?

The car (#4) has a lycoming engine in it, however this pic is of the engine that would have been in the car had it gone into production.

There were four prototypes, this is the only one that I know of that still exists. It is a 1928 Indian, and best anyone can gleen from company records the '29 depression was what killed the car.

They don't have Stanley Steamer either. I guess we can't be too disappointed with the Indian omission...

Nor do they have the Hupmobile. My Grandpa used to own one. Always talked about how much he liked the car.

They tried to bring Duesenburg back a couple times, once in the 60's and once in the 80's.The direct link is the Stutz Bearcat.Problem with making a true dusie is every single one was hand built by different coach builders. All dusies were built in 1929 as you only bought the chassis and motor then sent it to a coach builder to put a body on it with basic specs from the factory.I have spent lots ofd time at the Cord,Auburn, Duesenburg museam as it's only an hour and a half from the house.

Sad to hear they failed... They look great! Maybe this is something for wasisname again... eh... The "Chris-Craft" people.. "Stellican". That's them... (associated link) http://www.namedevelopment.com/blog/archiv...n_motorcyc.html

They mentioned this buying of the "chassis" on the autohistory page... $8000 for the chassis... and $5500 more if you wanted a complete car.

http://www.automotivehistoryonline.com/Duesenberg5.htm. That is such an interesting concept. If you knew a good body shop, you COULD end up with whatever you wanted.

Great car concept... They've been doing that for years with motorcycles and custom shops, though.

Does the museum near you have a website? Just curious.

Yours,

Thor
