A man died Tuesday night after losing control of his motocycle and hitting a tree in southeast Houston, police said.

The unidentified man was driving his 2005 Yamaha Venture Royal Star northbound in the 6300 block of Cullen when he started to pass a car in front of him at 9:17 p.m., said Lloyd C. Morrison II, a senior accident investigator with the Houston Police Department.

"In the middle of the road there is a 6-inch deep rut where the two lanes come together at the center line," Morrison said. "The front wheel of his bike dropped into the rut and he tried vigorously to get out, but when he lunged out of the rut, he hit a curb, slid onto the grass and his bike went out from under him."

The man was thrown into a tree, Morrison said. He was taken to Memorial Hermann-The Texas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

a SIX INCH RUT..

sounds like it's time for the surviving family to sue the state. Last I checked they take our tax dollars to repair the roads. For our money, we should be provided with safe roads, if not well maintained roads.
