It is Baloon
Just, felt I should say something to ya all. August 3, 2007 6:30PM PCT. Santa Barbara, CA. All day we have watched the smoke and ash from the Zaca fire coming over the coastal mountains. In santa barbara, Fiesta, Gov. Schwarzenegger, and the ashes rage on. It has now changed from All Good to All Not So Good along the So CaL coast north of Los Angeles. If we have to evacuate, I'll try to get a final message out to ya bros. Every time this happens it seems like a bad dream. Been in this house over 25 years and have not actually had to evacuate yet. In reality, if we have to evacuate we'll prolly be running for our lives. see countyofsb.org NDN Joe aka EZ1 in santa barbara

She has been in this same house since 1964!Hey Chris, can you even see some of this smoke from Simi? Edited August 4, 2007 by EZ1

It is Baloon
LOL OK, Just got back to this thread today. Thanks all. It appears this "Zaca" fire is one of those long term deals. Darn fire puts a bit of a question mark in our August travel plans. Since travel could mean running for our lives. Earth Quakes and fires. It's the price of living in this place. Hasbin and his daughter rode with my wife and I from Goleta to Buellton last Saturday. I turned around in Buelltown while Chris & Shawna continued on to the IIRA party in Santa Maria. Wife and I rode back toward Santa Barbara in the sunshine with a huge white mushroom cloud in the distance over the coastal mountains right behind our house and everyone else's house in santa barbara. By today, fire crews have completed a fire break all along East Camino Cielo which is the ridge along the aforementioned mountains. If we ever evacuate, maybe you all could help me save the Chief too. Only one 19 year old daughter lives part time in the house with us. It is just me and the wife in the house my wife Jessie Lou grew up in. I'll use this thread to keep you all informed. thanks again NDN Joe aka EZ1 in santa barbara Edited August 8, 2007 by EZ1

Blackdog
Darn fire puts a bit of a question mark in our August travel plans. Since travel could mean running for our lives. Joe, vacation starts for Penny and I this Saturday. If you and your wife want to get the valuables out, button up and go for a ride you are welcome to join us - sometimes helps to get away for awhile and forget about something you can't influence anyway. Saturday I'm riding and my wife is trucking to Reno (probably take Ebbets Pass over the Sierras). Sunday through next Thursday we are riding Northern CA - including Lassen National Park, Redwood National and State Parks, Avenue of The Giants, Rte 36 from Red Bluff to the coast - last leg will be Fort Bragg across the 20 Back to Reno (hopefully to pick up truck and Indian) and then back down to Santa Maria. Anyway - if you want to create a last minute get away riding vacation - jump in with us - let me know. We'll leave about 8AM Saturday. Either way best of luck dealing with the fire. It is Baloon
Hey Blackdog, Now you get around. Funny, how just a few miles up or down the road makes such a difference when dealing with Mother Nature. Hope you and Penny are gonna enjoy your ride even more knowing how just a throw of the dice can change things. Me and the wife are trying to salvage August plans which include Seattle Wedding, Vancouver BC, and New York City trip for wife, Jessie, and the girls to start younger daughter at New York University. All the time, we will be wondering about the stinking fire. LOL At this point, there is no doubt in my mind that everyone would love to have my problems. Well...maybe not the running for your life part. If the house burns, we'll prolly get a new one, even one with a panoramic view. I'm also, sad cause little nephew's birthday will not be at the Yacht Club this Sunday. I usually look forward soooo much to those Yachchcht Club Mai-TAi's. <smile> Be sure you have a good safe trip next week. I'll see you back online when you get back. Unless, you take a puter on the trip. HA Regards, NDN Joe aka EZ1 in santa barbara Edited August 8, 2007 by EZ1

It is Baloon
Thanks ALL for the encouragement. We are hoping the fire just burns itself out before the wind ever turns hard west toward the ocean and the populated western side of the mountains. Chris, Were you living in Simi during that Simi Valley area fire some years ago? If yes, do you member how long did that fire burn? I'm just curious.
