badndn
i was recovering from a saturday night at the strip club yesterday and spent all day watching the tube. got to watching the mt. everest marathon on the discovery/times channel. holy shit! these are some tough little fuckers. one of the guys doing the climb had previously lost his legs from the knee down trying to get to the summit. he got frostbite on his stumps and the sherpa carried his ass down the mountain. we are talking 20,000 feet high. the guys make a living trying to get these goobers to the top of the world. it had a biker dude on there too. he made it to within 350 feet of the top. at that distance away, it was still over an hour away. there was a dude dying under a rock....they just left his ass. i understand the logistics of the decision, but it is still a tough call. they said there are over 200 bodies up there. they kinda roll them off a cliff and keep on climbing. some are actually still lying beside the trails. i don't understand the way some think. takes all kinds, i suppose. You're right. These people are so intent on reaching thier personal goals, they will leave a dying friend. They're so wrapped up in themselves (and the big money they paid to make the trip) that they don't see it as a problem to let others die just so they can achieve thier bullshit goal. On the other hand, I don't feel sorry at all for anybody who makes that attempt to climb Everest. They better know what they are getting in to. They better know what they are getting in to. the way they justified leaving the guy was there was no way to get enough people up in time to save him. they told of another group (korean IIRC) that made a second trip just to retrieve the body of a climber who died up there. the group moved the body 500 feet and gave up and left the body there. like i said earlier, i understand the logistics, i just don't understand the whole thing period. sooner or later the place is going to be a salvage/grave yard of frozen bodies, ox tanks, and all the rest of the shit they leave behind. there is no way to bring any of it back. most can barely bring themselves back. some can't do that. don't guess it really matters i guess. nobody but the guys that are climbing the hill see it.
