Indian in print

Recommended Posts

That magazine has a few things Indian related this month:

1. Race of vintage bikes with Indian winning. 1903 Indian beat out two Harleys and a Norton (or Vincent, cant remember) on the motor speedway outside of Birmingham....Barber MotorSports Park. The winning bike was raced and provided by the WHEELS THROUGH TIME MUSEUM in Maggie Valley NC. To enter the bikes must be 100 years old. The Indian almost lost when it went off the road and crashed but was back on track shortly and followed before blowing past the Harleys on final stretch. Next year they are expecting a couple 1907 factory racers which I think are Crockers.

2. A bobber had the Powerplus motor in it....or maybe that was last month. LOL

3. Another chop build and they used the rear fender off a Gilroy Scout

Think I mentioned before that many in the mag think that if you want a nice motor that is not a Harley look alike you are stuck with either a Brit engine or the PP100...... nice to be liked!

Mebbe this is old news but American Iron has a Posie article in it and a 2001 sprout and a 40 Chief, almost like the old Indian rag they used to put out.

Always found the Alan Crocker story fascinating. Believe he was a Los Angeles kid who set up shop in LA circa 1935 -(Venice area I think). I read somewhere that Walter Davidson had a team of HD engineers dissect a Crocker engine to look for any copycat technology that infringed upon hd. They could find nothing. The friggin Crocker beat just about everything. HD, IM, Norton...all of them during that time period. Check out the history section.

Good thing Evinrude did not do that to Harley Davidson or they would have been years trying to build their own clutch system but luckily they could steal it from Evinrude and nobody sued them.....LOL
