I feel as though I have succeeded in satisfying my need to “break on through to other side”…

I have seen others make their observations and have made some myself. Here is where I observe us currently to be.

1) We are on an “Indian Motorcycle Community” Public Forum – hence I guess by the content and title most activity would be would be about Indian Motorcycles and the Community surrounding Indian motorcycles.

2) Many of us are also Iron Indian Riders – but because of all of the “action” on this site we prefer to play here with “less restriction”. Some think lately the restriction has gotten a bit much – some think it could not have come soon enough – I have no opinion on it yet. I simply thank Mike and Robert for doing their best to keep us all playing as best they and we can. I also offer that for those of us that are members and want it tamer and more focused– we use the Iron Indian Riders Association Web Site. I myself like both. Sometimes I post only stuff over there because either it pertains only to Association business or the nonsense here is too out of hand. Other times I will post it in both places. The member’s forum will only get used – if it is chosen to be used by the members. And yes it is more restrictive. It is designed primarily to discuss Indian Motorcycles and things around associating – like rides, chapter business, member to member connections, family announcements, etc… It is not for political stumping, spoofing, baiting, etc…Although part of associating is humor and as such it has a “Jokes” section like this forum does.

3) Emotions have run high on IMC on a number of issues – some real, some imagined (yet real to the supposedly “offended”). For me personally – I welcome any Indian Rider to come here and talk about Indian Motorcycles and the Community surrounding Indian Motorcycles. Hell we even have a section for other brands because many of us have them and part of “associating” is sharing what ya got.

4) Many want to see us return to a more harmonious time when we were all happy and helping one another with our bikes. I too would like that – in a dream world. The reality is this – as time marches on so does our circumstance. We are primarily Gilroy Indian owners. I have seen other non-factory Indian Motorcycle forums – primarily Springfield forums. Take a moment if you will and ponder – how does a Springfield Indian owner’s ride survive? I think through ingenuity and support from his fellow owners. Ours does the same. One point of controversy in the Gilroy community of owners is how will our rides survive? This remains to be seen, but I will venture to guess in the long run – it will be the same as Springfield owners – ingenuity and support from fellow Gilroy owners. This includes ALL owners – even those that have dredged up all the dirt on our motors and those that provide us various fixes today. In my opinion no one is going to “corner the market” on those fixes.

5) Passion and hostility. Both can be useful when used appropriately. Passion - it appears we all have. Hostility it appears we all have as well but we as individuals show or hide it better at various times. Hiding it more would be better on a motorcycling discussion forum. What drives the hostility? I think it is passions in conflict. Some claim a passion for supplying us parts and continuing the Gilroy Chief models on the road and even offering more “Chiefs” under a different bike company name. Others claim that Indian is for real and we should just wait them out. With two such vested yet opposing claims to our collective passion – Indian Motorcycles is it any wonder we feud? To me it is OK to discuss all things Indian here – but not persistently other company business.

6) We are not alone. I have a good friend who is very active nationally and in California with the Victory Riders. They have an online forum as well. I was discussing the happenings – good and bad – in our community. Before I could finish he said let me guess…. he finished our story as we currently stand without another word from me. Seems the Victory online forum has gone through the same stuff. Still does. Owners thinking they know all about where Victory will go/should go. Warring factions choosing sides – or not. Pot stirrers. Members leaving. All just point fingers and say let’s just ride. Only difference is their motorcycle company seems to be advancing as we all wish Indian would have been at this point – and they still have all this trouble. One thing to consider is that maybe it is just a human condition to eventually pick fights over something. Or maybe certain personalities just can not leave well enough alone and have to start fights like some schoolyard punk. And that is where I think the moderation of the forum needs to jump in – as it has.

7) The future. Indian is coming back in 2007/2008. They have told us this and they are showing signs of making it a reality. There are a lot that say “I ain’t seen nothing yet”. Or, “Don’t care, got mine”. Well, this is sort of an absurd statement of the obvious. No one has seen anything yet, and all of us “got mine” – so what is really your point? Because they haven’t produced on your time table you doubt they can produce? You want to stir controversy and by baiting them and your fellow Gilroy owners you will make them produce faster? Why not go back and practice 4 above – work together – positively associate AND discuss Indian in the positive or debate the points – such as…. “Well, they are saying 2007 but I think they will miss their mark based on what we have seen and heard so far but I would bet March 2008 is the earliest you will see a bike from them”. In fact I think I will start a poll on this. In the future world we will be like Springfield owners – owners of a past incarnation of the Iconic Brand known as Indian. We will be respected and admired by some for the chances we took –and - how we coped with them when presented with failure of Gilroy. We may be pitied a bit for “our story”. We will be appreciated as the owners of some damn beautiful bikes that are running and powered – most likely by a Malfa, Blackhawk or Posie reengineered PowerPlus motor. Some of us may go on to own Springfield, Gilroy AND King’s Mountain Indians. Some of us will sell or otherwise retire our bikes and simply – move on.

Other – I think once the new Indian comes out – the course for Indian will be set. I know, an obvious statement, but this is the point – none of us will influence it now – or then – except as customers (or, if we are lucky enough to enter their employ or consult). So, while it is fun to guess, debate and wish for what they will do… once it is known it is their road to travel and we can participate as much as we participated in Gilroy or Springfield.

So…I guess with that said – I am starting anew. Hi my name is Dave “Blackdog” Lowden. I own a Gilroy Indian Chief which is my pride and joy. I rode it cross country in winter of 2002 on a personal experience of a lifetime that took me coast to coast, led me to meet many great folks – many who are still members of this forum and led me to transplant here in CA - where the riding is nearly always available, motorcycles of all types are everywhere and there is never a shortage of things to do in the outdoors, places to go and people to see on a motorcycle.

here we go again....................... chief this, chief that. When you clowns gonna realize that aint what made Indian, it's what killed em. Ya think the only thing Chevy ever built was the econo cheap rehashed Nova rebadged a Camaro?

what?

oh...........

Seriously folks, great post. Eventually the herd will be culled by attrition. I make a lot of shots here and there like the above, (used for an example only of course) but I don't dislike anyone that's ever been on here. Nothing personal with a soul. Don't understand all the "conspiracy" issues, but if I did feel like something was "evil", like a haunted house, I would get the hell out. Don't make it a B movie where ya stand around and get killed one by one for an hour and a half. I would be gone. Lot's of other Indian forums around. I like this one. Gotta admit, never a dull moment, a host of characters in one place like no other. Read a few threads on a HD forum. Make ya wanna gag sometimes. Kinda like Bill Murrays speach in Stripes, ya know about we are the orphans, the misfits. Again, I agree, and think most agree. The only real hard cases on here, you can count with your fingers. Don't even have to take your shoes off. I think it's over 2,000 registered here. And a few are causing all this? Well that shouldn't be too hard to fix. The easiest thing to do is ignore someone that drives ya bugs. Consider the source and read on. I have no problem with anyone making rediculous posts are statements. It's the replies that build on each other and get out of hand. Don't get involved in it. The post will fade away into history like a PP headgasket.

and finally, just wanna say..........

hang in there all, just a few bumps in the road, it will work out.

Goddamnit Pete I hate fk'n clowns. They creep me out man.

Me too, I got more where those came from! It is a phobia known as "Coulrophobia" I developed it from my son's affinity of listening to "Insane Clown Possee" music.

Do You Suffer From

Fear of Clowns?

Symptoms of fear of clowns:

Seeing clowns or only thinking about clowns can result in the following symptoms:

breathlessness, dizziness, excessive sweating, nausea, dry mouth, feeling sick, shaking, heart palpitations, inability to speak or think clearly, a fear of dying, becoming mad or losing control, a sensation of detachment from reality or a full blown anxiety attack.

that would be a tough call, one gun, one bullet, a mime and a clown.

would have to shoot the mime though, as much as I hate clowns, there is no damn excuse for a mime.

First off, Insane Clown Posse isn't music.

Secondly I believe you mistakenly listed the symptoms of "PP100 ophobia".

You should know, you had it couple of months ago! (ouch) I had to say it . The diagnosis is basically the same for any panic disorder.

Oh hell yeah I won't deny it I got it bad. It's either therapy for me or else I'm gonna light myself on fire like a Buddhist monk. I'd rather live with a crack whore.

Owning a PP Chief will satisfy the crack whore desire! It is just as expensive as keeping one up!

here we go again....................... chief this, chief that. When you clowns gonna realize that aint what made Indian, it's what killed em. Ya think the only thing Chevy ever built was the econo cheap rehashed Nova rebadged a Camaro?

what?

oh...........

Seriously folks, great post. a few are causing all this? Well that shouldn't be too hard to fix. The easiest thing to do is ignore someone that drives ya bugs. Consider the source and read on. I have no problem with anyone making rediculous posts are statements. It's the replies that build on each other and get out of hand. Don't get involved in it. The post will fade away into history like a PP headgasket.

and finally, just wanna say..........

hang in there all, just a few bumps in the road, it will work out.

that would be a tough call, one gun, one bullet, a mime and a clown.

would have to shoot the mime though, as much as I hate clowns, there is no damn excuse for a mime.

You can get them both with one bullet.

Just have to be patient. :cool1:
