Brock
Fella I met a couple times that goes by "Cut" and rides one of the S&S Chiefs had an accident this weekend. He was going around curve and his handlebars dropped on him...went into ditch and flew a little without wings. Hurt his leg but not broke....might have broke a finger or two and some bumps and bruises but was lucky it was just dirt and trees and not a tractor trailer he went into.... He lives in Ivnor, Virginia or something like that.... Anybody know him? I dont have his email anymore........ You guys check your risers on those kit bikes....we dont need to lose anyone else around here.

puetko
Hi guys, we had a member actually have his risers break on a 2000 Chief. We inspected them and found that the original risers basically are made out of "pot metal" and are very light in strength. He had aftermarket bars on it "chubby's" and they just snapped. We replaced them with the Harley ones that are solid steel and no problems. Kinda scary!
Eraserhead
wasn't there some kind of recall on the bars?
zit
i seem to remember some sort of recall for my '00 chief,,that being said, i discovered that one side of my riser was cracked about a week before branson last year.. it sure looked like pot metal, but an easy enuf part to match up & replace. It's a pain in the ass, but it beats flying through the TREES!!! He had aftermarket bars on it "chubby's" and they just snapped. Oh lovely. i seem to remember some sort of recall for my '00 chief,,that being said, i discovered that one side of my riser was cracked about a week before branson last year.. it sure looked like pot metal, but an easy enuf part to match up & replace. And here I ran my Chief into the trees and the risers were fine. Bushings were another story, forks were tweaked, but no cracks on the risers. If not, maybe you can put some kind of gnarley thang on your bars...you'll still have to tighten them every other time you ride, but at least they'll look gnarley.
