Discrimination

I had a really strange thing happen the other day.I decided to go to the Dicks Sporting Goods in Canton Ct.It's a new store in a new upscale stripmall. This strip mall has a very high end assortment of shops,Located in a very, very.high end town.So I throw on my vest(with the coveted carpet patch)and put on my RayBans and off I go on the Spirit. I park out in front and walk inside to the Leatherman display.Im not in the store 30 seconds before this guy walks up and ask if I need assistance,No thanks I say and continue my Biz.I see him walk over to a younger clerk and say something and they both look over at me.So I am WATCHED discretely as I check out the multitools.I pick up a Leatherman and check out,the whole time being treated like I am very dangerous. When I walk outside I notice a silver Impala parked in the Handicap right next to me,It's a unmarked police car with a cop inside on the radio. When I get to the bike He gets out of the car and askes me What brings me to Canton,He then gives me a wheather report warning me about the impending thunderstorms. After that he goes inside Dick's. So I get on the bike and park over in front of the Baja Fresh for lunch.I see the local security gaurds driving by every couple minutes but the atmosphere inside is fine. When I finish lunch I walk outside and I see Mister unmarked car about a hundred yards away go to his car and get on the radio again,(Oh fuck here we go I'm thinking)So I nervously ride out of the parking lot expecting a big ambush. As I pull onto the street I see a local Cop pull in behind me,He follows me untill I turn off towards Unionville,Even though I did'nt need to go there. So I wondered if I was PARANOID OR DISCRIMANATED AGAINST.I wasnt even doing my WesleySnipes .

Archer...if it were me, I'd write a letter to the Editor in their local newspaper, thanking them for the security escort you recieved while doing some shopping in their town. I'd also make sure to thank the local police who followed you to make sure no one ran you over while you were in their town, and question them as to whether or not everyone gets this kind of Royal treatment. Remind them that you are just a normal everyday citizen who happened to spend a little cash in their town, and not some movie star so deserving of such treatment. Also remind them that their services could have been better utilized keeping the cross walks safe for all the little old lady's in town, not watsed on you.....LOL.....

It brought back memories of riding in Arizona 25 years ago. Everytime you passed a Cop they would have to pull you over and check the frame ser.and licence.

Yep I guess I have to rethink getting that fucktard tattoo on my forehead. And If I contacted the media I think the Haves in that town would approve of my treatment anyway.

Had the same treatment last fall here in Fayetteville during Bikes Blues & BBQ. I had on my vest with my IIRG patch on the back as we entered my favorite watereing hole. The bouncer asked me to remove my vest apparently thinking I was flying colors. Funny thing was Bruce (4paws) had on his IIRG shirt and did not get any shit from the bouncer. I guess leather is a calling card for trouble.

Last year Amy and I ran into a jewelry store owner in a Branson strip mall that treated us similarly (watched us like a hawk with that 'you couldn't possibly have the money to afford to shop here, so you must be going to steal something or rob me' look). Didn't call the cops on us, but then we decided to to buy anything either since evidently we weren't good enough to treat like anyone else. Profiling. Gotta love it. Glad to hear it turned out ok, even though I'm sure it got you fuming at the time.

Ok, I understand it took you by suprise, but why didn't you politely ask the police if there was a problem? I have done it before and yes sometimes they get pissed but as long as your ducks are in a row ........fuck um! Just ask a simple question.

Well, I heard it's not possible to commit a hate crime against a "white" person...no law to support it...

The law does not have to be written to make something unjust.

Remember the riots in L.A in the 80s?They showed that Trucker getting pulled out of His truck and beat half to death.NO HATE CRIME THERE.Also didnt they convict a couple rednecks for beating a Homo to dearh.I think they did call that one a hate crime.

shrug it off, dude. It's gonna happen form time to time, and as long as you stay freindly and articulate there usually won't be an issue...just annoying as hell, but unfortunately, even today, the biker-thing still makes some people uneasy..even if you're an affable fella such as myself.
