Made it to Florence. As you can see below, I stopped in Lincoln City where I had lunch with ScoutDave and his wife. Nice to meet the two of you. Hope you get that misfire fixed soon. Damn, it was loud.
I'm at an internet cafe' in old town Florence across the street from Mo's Restaurant (thanks Daddyg). I plan to pig out on oysters. Had a half dozen on the half shell last night in Astoria but I need more. Only two days to go on the 2005 Iron Butt Tour but it's no guarantee the bike will hold out. As mentioned, I have no headlight, hi-beam, spots or horn. I've had to jump start the bike the last two mornings because the charging system is on its way out. And today, the speedo cable broke. But the biggest problem is a loud clunk sometimes when I'm in fifth gear. Sounds like the tranny but it's hard to tell. In any case, it looks like it's fourth gear the rest of the way home. Hope the jump starter's got enough charge left in it for two more jumps. It's been quite awhile since I've been on the Orgeon coast but it's still as beautiful as I remember. There are spots where development has taken over but, by and large, the Oregon coast is too steep to build houses on so most of it retains its beauty. Weather's as good as could be expected for this time of year but it's still damn cold riding in the shade of the mountains and trees. If the bike allows, I'll ride to Eureka, CA tomorrow and then home on Tuesday. Tomorrow will make 6 weeks that I've been on the 2005 Iron Butt Tour and I'm definitely ready to soak in my own shower before collapsing in my own bed. The closer I get, the more I feel the need. I tell myself it's just two more nights in the tent but it's little consolation. If I can, I'll try and find internet access in Eureka tomorrow. If not, I'll post again after I get home. Talk to you later.
