Well, I'm out of the river and back in Ft. Benton. Had a great time. There really are sections of the Missouri River that still look just like they did when Lewis and Clark came through 200 years ago. Of course, there are also plenty of sections of the river that are covered in cow shit but that's progress. I had a steak dinner tonight just to get even a little. Weather, with the exception of one day, was excellent. I actually got out a day early and got a chance to hitch a ride with some people out to where the elk were in rut. Got a picture of a gorgeous 7-point buck that was lording it over the other elk. Also, saw bighorn, deer and antelope along the way. Tons of birds, even two kinds of eagles, bald and golden. Hell of an experience. I head to Great Falls tomorrow to see where Lewis and Clark had to do their big portage. The bike, after sitting in Ft. Benton for over a week, started up on the first try. Still a couple of weeks left on the 2005 Iron Butt Tour. It's going to feel strange getting back on the bike tomorrow but it's a hell of a lot easier than paddling a kayak. Talk to you later.
